  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Dear mr Jannard can we please see some footage?

You have seen footage from our test bed. New footage only makes sense for real working units. Trust me that we will post as soon as we can.

Jim

Thanks, Jim! I'll be looking forward to it.

definitely looking forward to it, hoping there is going to be something to see this saturday though . . .

There will be no Scarlet footage shown this Saturday.

Jim

Any ideas when we will see Scarlet footage at the earliest? I was really hoping for some info on Saturday but that does not seem to be the case. Will there be any big Scarlet news on Saturday or will it all be centered around the Epic?

Let me start by stating that I am a huge Red fan and believe that the company will deliver a knockout product. I have already set aside money for the cam and accessories and have been putting off purchasing a DSLR for quite some time. I just wish we could see a little of the 2/3 sensors potential to make the waiting period a little easier. If you have been following Red since 2007 and the Scarlet since early 2009, than the wait has seemed like a decade.

Is there any way that we can see some footage from the test bed? (yes I have seen the lizard clip) I know that Jim is a perfectionist (the perfect thing to be in this industry) and as a perfectionist myself, I know that you don't want to show the world you creation until it is just right. Scarlet footage right now may not be 100% but I am sure that it is light years ahead of anything currently available.

Again, not pestering for footage but a little teaser at least within the next month would be wonderful if at all possible.

Instead of waiting for a scarlett, why not just buy a Canon T2I for $800 that shoots 24p 1080 HD Video & upgrade to a $5000 Scarlett when it comes out?

because of all the problems that come with shooting video for a living with DSLRs.

At least the Canon DSLRs actually exist. & Considering how buggy the RED was when it first came out, I can only imagine the bugs in the Scarlet.

The "buggiest" release of the Red One still didn't do line-skipping or shoot in H.264. Night and day. I'd take the bare-bones Natasha and Boris that Peter Jackson used for 'Crossing the Line' over any DSLR currently capable of shooting video.

In time that will undoubtedly change, but it's gonna apparently take a lot longer than it takes to get the Scarlet into production.

Since the original post wasn't specific... can we see some FF35 Scarlet footage? :D

I'm starting to get at least a wee bit worried since the M-X Scarlet footage was first posted last year in the spring and we aren't seeing a M-X scarlet release until July or so. So by that lag from test-bed to product we're still 18 months at the earliest away from FF35 Scarlets. Is that true? Maybe the next round will be faster when the ASICs are proven?

Are the anamorphics going to be announced, developed and shipped before Monstro? :D

Gavin... we have been very open in our approach. We think it, we say it. We have also been open about our inability to hit time targets because we have never done this stuff before. We have made a lot of changes from our open dialog with the community, which has also caused delays. But if we get pushed too hard that this process is not good, we are also open thinking enough to change it.

Although I can understand the anticipation, I'd rather Red stuck with this philosophy! being open and honest with the community means a hell of a lot more than rushing a product out to meet an arbitary deadline and potentially releasing something that won't meet expectations.

Just speculation but...

The Scarlet sensor needs the delayed ASIC and a fully functional brain (not just a brass board) to properly test it. The S32 sensor was always intended as an upgrade to RED ONE so working cameras were available while we wait the 6-8 weeks a foundry usually takes for a chip respin.
