Mark, the upgrade to the Epic will be free?
Actually ... as RED seems like they may "catch up" to orders (if Big Jon's dates hold) before the end of the year ... you would be able to buy a RED and get it very quickly.
So I wonder if Jim will announce something like - "you must buy a RED before XXXX if you want to qualify for the FREE upgrade to Epic ...?

oh oh, Mark you might want to clarify...
LOL!! changed my text - you know what I meant!!

The release of EPIC would be the determining factor of how long you can still by a RED ONE and upgrade to EPIC, not the availability of RED ONEs... right?
And as RED ONEs begin to flood the market, all the more reason for RED to offer incentives to sell more...
right?
Maybe. But what if Jim already decided how much he would be willing to EAT for customer loyalty? I don't think he can take $17,500 off another product and not loose something, right? Right now, his customers have reservations.
I have a "funny feeling" that EPIC is going to be so far beyond anyone's expectations that I struggle to think why anyone will not upgrade, unless they simply can't afford it - so yeah - that begs the question of "how long do I have to upgrade before I loose the opportunity?" - and it might make MORE sense for Jim to let that period be long or even indefinite - and simply not give new customers who didn't take the plunge - the privilege of full credit on an Epic upgrade. And I was just suggesting (thinking out loud) that if he decided to do that - I would assume he would announce it - and folks would have a "last chance" to buy into Red.
But who knows ... all things subject to change. We all know that Jim puts his customer loyalty first, and we also know ... people are going to bitch and moan regardless.
Anyway ... I am so excited for EPIC I can't stand to think about it.
I just wonder where all the Red Ones are going to go ...?
But who
I don't see why the Epic upgrade program would be limited to early adopters. It seems like it will make sense for all customers and secure the value of a Red One. Am I missing something?

I hardly call someone buying a camera after 5000 or so ship an early adopter. But, you might be right, Ian. It's just hard for me to imagine the massive pile of Red One cameras as everyone grabs their Epics -
I don't think the trade in deal is pure generosity, I think it's part of a well thought out long term business plan. These cameras after all are an investment and they have resale value that needs to be considered. They cost as much as a car and you can trade them in just like a car. It makes sense to me.
