FTW!!

wait, really? now i feel used. I paid $999 plus $500 for the avid license and thats all free now? Who do i write to get my money back. I am on an OpenCL GFX card on a Mac Pro, so in essence i was just robbed...

Please tell me there are more differences between $1000 and free than the ability to export higher than 1080.

BMD like Apple are Hardware companies that push their hardware through great software.
BMD seems set to rule the world, and with SpeedGrades probable integration with CS6, this seems like the smart thing to do...

And you want more than one GPU, anyway... :)

Wow.
The only thing, that would still make me to buy the full version of Resolve is the remote grading option. Otherwise, the Lite version would do the trick.
I do not want to sound melodramatic, but seriously, with this latest announcement, what sane company would continue to develop any kind of color grading tools and hope to make ANY money on ANY platform?

Well, the 1000$ was allways quite symbolic, and BMD wants to push hardware through software and basically rule the world...
I'd say this is a pretty good stab at exactly that....

I'm totally FOR the competition, but how do you compete with free? This is the case of "almost free printers with pricey replacement cartridges or almost free shaving handles with very expensive refill cartridges" all over again. I can ALMOST understand it, when it is applied to mass marketed commodity, but color grading systems are not. Well, actually come to think of it, now they are:-)

Dumb question I'm sure but you can use it without the big keyboard control unit right? I've been using apple color, how does this program compare?

Had a feeling there may be some backlash on this from existing customers. However, I do think there is still some valid reasons for the paid version.
- 1080 limitation. All good until someone asks for a 2K master
- 1 GPU. Might be fine for some, others this could be an issue
- 1 Red Rocket. Some may be taking advantage of more than 1, providing greater R3D decoding power
- Remote grading, might be important for some

For everyone else, there is lite version and incredibly it costs nothing. Actually, it does. You need hardware to run it properly and depending on what you currently own, that could add up. Need GPU, maybe a Rocket, a Black-Magic I/O card, maybe an expander if you're on a Mac that is already filled up with PCI cards. So free could still mean thousands of dollars. Now it's just $1500 less than it was before because you get DNxHD for free too.

This should seal the deal on what the most common color grading app will be.

That's true, I do want multiple GPU goodness :) I'm less perturbed now.

I guess if you're right multi-GPU support will remain locked until BM decide to get into NVIDIA's market and I'm okay with that since I already spent the money. (As a side note - Apple is more of a software API company that pushes their platform through great hardware.)
