  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

hello guys, I open a new discourse here. Finally we arrived at a beta of Machete code-named "DRAGON". I am happy to announce that on OSx 10.9 DP7 the HP Z820 Workstation dual 8 core 2670 .. works well :yesnod: I only have some small problems with the speed steep ... I will try to solve. I've finished some patches ... Hoping that can serve for the final version. For now I'm just using a GPU, as soon as I install the second time. I'm also waiting for the x-REDROCKET. Davinci V10 Beta work fine. Well there will be update soon as I have some news. Have a nice day :) Luigi

UPDATE 1 23 SEPTEMBER:

-I keep you updated, Machete Dragon continues discreetly, here is the list of what works and what does not work.

WORK:

- DSDT patched for 2 cpu xeon to MAx 8 core for processor. Total 32 core whit HyperThrading.
- DSDT patched for work whit 2 GPU Nvidia at x16 Gtx 580/590/680/690 at full Open CL / Titan max at 80% and good in comparison to the speed of the first was at 50% in 10.8.5 - Audio work ( if you want :))
- Usb 2 al port ok
- Usb 3 partially works, I'll keep you updated.
- Sata AHCI 2 port at 6g work perfect.
- 2 port ethernet work perfect
- Firewire 400 work perfect

NOT WORK:

- 4 Port sata SCU (I'm trying to figure out who the hell is going on these ports)
- SAS LSI integrated not work, not exist at the moment driver. (you will not miss anything, like maybe by Jeff said if you connect all the cables becomes a mess installing video cards in the last slot .. Shit.)

INTEGRATED:

- Driver for Dell Perch310 sas Raid (This gives you the opportunity to establish 8 hard drives)

RESULTS:

- At the moment Redcine-x 21,Davinci V10, Premiere CC, FinalCut work well :) GEEKBENCH go to at about 32000 point whit dual Xeon 2670 ES C0 2.6ghz 8 core.

*******when he gets' the new Mac Pro would have the new smbios.plist, so we can activate the turbo boost and go to almost 40000 points Geekbench;)

still a few months;)*******

Most LSI HBA/Raid controllers don't have Mac OS drivers so there won't be any native support, particularly with integrated controllers, however most of the 3Ware HBA/Raid controllers do have Mac OS drivers and native support (3Ware is a separate company but is owned by LSI). For LSI Mac OS drivers you typically have to see if any have been developed by any 3rd party partner companies.

take a look at the driver ... perhaps with a bit of luck I can find a solution.

the main problem of this workstation are the cables that are positioned under or near the video cards.
A disaster ...

Better to have a Raid card and manage it all with that.

However, I am curious to know when it comes out the Thunderbolt card pcie, it becomes very interesting if I can get it working.
 
Hi Luigi. I´ll buy a z820 coming soon and I´m very interesting in your project, because I'd like install a Hackintosh system. I'll be waiting your improve. :smiley: When I´ll have "the machine" maybe I will be able to get you some help.

really a problem these connectors close to the GTX.
For this reason and 'much better to buy a raid card pcie additional.

Hi! Is there any progress? I already have my z820. After a lot of tries , I have running mavericks but with poor support (no sata, no audio, and things related with cpu support, etc etc). I´m not enough expert in Hackintosh, so I´m stuck. And it seems there is no much people interested on this to search on internet.

Meanwhile I was searching and "researching" how install mavericks, I found the next: Mavericks doesn´t support 2011 socket. Z820 uses Xeon/2011 socket and ordinary macs use 1151 socket (ivi bridge, haswell, etc). I had to use one special patched kernel founded on popular hackintosh´s forums. It works , but it´s not genuine. That´s the reason because of poor support.

Ok. But macpro 2013 has 2011 xeon/2011 socket. The answer is new macpro uses an special build of mavericks: 13B4116 (for 10.9.2) , ready for 2011 socket and xeon cpus. So my hope is use that special build of mavericks to get better support and /or best possibilities to patch it. The problem: Apple has changed install methodology specially with new macpro: First, mavericks published at the store is the "convencional" version. Apple doesn`t publish that special version (only its updates, wich are "specials" too) . The only way to re-install the SO for macpro´s owners is using the recovery partition. But even this method is not convencional because the recovery partition doesn´t have an off-line installer. The method is completely on-line. Macpro connects with apple´s server and download it as a temporary file, beeing deleted after install process

Anyway, get that special "mavericks OS X installer" would be easy for macpro´s owners. Simply is start the process of re-installing booting form recovery partition, use one usb stick as target, start the first part of process, the download of the installer, wait, and break the process at the first restart, when the download has finished. Restart normally the macpro and the installer will be at the usb stick.

Well, that is what I´m know. So , I´m stucked here. I don´t know if expert like Luigi could be patch ordinary Mavericks or wait to some way to get the special build or... well I don´t know.

I hope this info will be usefull for Luigi or everybody interested.

exactly that and 'where are still ...
a lot of problems with the kernel .. besides not support more than 32 cores ...

So far, the HP Z800 with 10.8.5 is the most stable and where to use osx ..

I do not know .. I look forward to the most up to date versions, magarai from 10.9.4 onwards, everything works without major modifications.

Maybe now that time Blackmagic has support in writing to ProRes on Windows, and then good-bye to your Mac.

We are waiting.

Yes, pro res in windows has been annonciaded on Nab....Apple has licensed encoding prores on windows

I wouldn´t like to say bye bye to mac. I´m Smoke artist. At the moment I don´t need use it at home, but autodesk has annonciaded a really good and reasonable prize rent-license for Smoke 2015 , very interesting for me now. That could open new chances and ways to work...

Luigi, could you explain more about "10.9.4 would work" any link?
 
I don't know how the prores decoder works now in the actual resolve versions, but till the last v9 prores decoding on windows was very painfull. but rendering out prores on windows would be interresting.
The windows version was also very unstable, did that change?
 
Windows version of DaVinci is very stable but NO PRORES natively.

Only issues I have is occasionally with a couple of mac drives that clients bring me. And very rarely the QTdecoder fritzes out. But that is rare.
