  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

DAVINCI RESOLVE and ***HACKINTOSH***

I did the hack on a different board. An asrock p67 Fatal1ty which has limited full pcie slots. only 2x8 lanes and one 4 lane. I'm sure it should work with 3xgtx570 with Luigi's setup.

I hope it will work with Luigi's setup. Would be a huge help. Thanks for the reply.

The problem is not whether they work or not, the problem is to do an installer, easy.
For now it is still too complicated.
Appearance updates from Apple or Nvidia drivers.
Just to let you know 560ti/570/580, and part 590, operate.
But I repeat performance is not much higher than the 400 series.
For my use, the next best solution is to have 2 gtx 580, and 2 or 3 redrocket to work with the EPIC-3D, and HDrx. Also because now having 4 GPU have never been able to use them all, unless you do 20 blur, but it would mean he was wrong to shoot. So, 2 gtx 580 are more than enough, both in performance and consumption.
This nice ASUS motherboard, will work with me for a long time;)
But as I said long ago, Blackmagic is working hard to Davinci and is proving with the various new features, including the solution on Windows, I am convinced that this software can we expect many new features in the future.
Congratulations to the team Blackmagic.

thanks
Luigi

I agree with this, Luigi. That's why many people think the hackintosh route is inconvenient, or even unworkable for an industry situation (which I disagree with, because I can make it work. :coolgleamA: Thanks to people like you of course. lolz).

But anyways, there's Davinci Resolve for windows now, so...

We'll be trying that soon enough too. :smile5:

Thanks

So just to be clear....I can build a hackintosh to your specs and use your installer, and put 3 GTX 580s in without a problem? Or do I have to add some script or code lines somewhere for the 580s? I would love to switch to a Windows based DaVinci when it comes, however my current workstation is a Mac Pro and thus my big SAS Raid is formated HFS, not easily readable from Windows. Plus most of my clients, at least at the moment, work in ProRes workflows which would make a Windows based DaVinci a little inconvenient. The hackintosh route lets me stay in a Mac OS X environment, and then when the timing is right run the windows version. Win, win..

Ciao Jeremiah,
Sure but you have to make a complicated procedure and you have to be an expert, I suggest you do not and I repeat that performance is of 10/20% more only whit many nodes. I do not think you need to blur 20, 4 nodes of noise, and and and .. in one clip.
I strongly recommend you buy 3 gtx 480, or 2 gtx 480 work very well and are very efficient. Also do not have a problem with hackintosh and do not have with Windows.
A tip if you work a lot with proress or DPX , take 6 core 990x and a good RAID card.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/EVGA-nVidia...459?pt=PCC_Video_TV_Cards&hash=item3f0221aaab

Personally I would do so:

1 6-core CPU 990x
2 or 3 GTX 480 GTX 480
1 areca card or ATTO card
1 120GB SSD for OS X
1 Blackmagic 3d
Asus p6t7 1 Supercomputer
24 gb ram ddr3 corsair or kingstom
1 alimentaion 1000 watts

I hope help you in your choice.

thanks

Thanks for the info and suggestions Luigi. Yeah the bulk of my work is ProRes or R3Ds. Probably 60% R3D work and 40% ProRes. I usually render out to ProRes4444. I cant afford a RedRocket at the moment. I have an ATTO R380 hooked up to an 8TB SAS which can get about 700MBs.

How "complicated" to get the 580s or 570s working? I have built many a computer, overclocked, custom liquid cooled, etc. And I have no problem modifying code and scripts and so forth. Is this something when the times comes I could chat with you over the phone about? I just want to get the latest equipment I can get without resorting to ebay and things like that. At the moment you can buy a GTX 570 for less than a 480. Thanks as always for the info! I plan to start the build in the next few months.

hello,
I open this new discussion,
Davinci Resolve is an excellent software certainly has a future, with this I decided to make a Hackintosh dedicated to the color correction based on Davinci.

Again, this is a Hackintosh, this system is not supported by anyone.

look my post N.47

For best performance setting in DAVINCI DEBUG MENU
LsManager.3.NumGPUs = 2 ***GPU you HAVE in HACK**
LsManager.3.GPUMapping = 0 1 *** 0 1 2 .. GPU ***
LsManager.3.GPUMappingEnable = 1 *** 1 Default ***

complicated because the procedure is not for everyone, I worked hard to make a simple installer now I'm not going to post here a long process I believe that many people love the simplicity and this is what I wanted to do until now.
I hope to find an easy solution to soon;):emote_hanged:

However, these drivers are ready for ZOTAC GTX 580 3GB.

Exactly. I love the simplicity of your installer and truly appreciate all the work. Just I'm not opposed to a little extra tweaking if I have too. Thanks for the driver link. Is that the only current working card or can the EVGSs I listed run? Thanks.

Am running 2xEVGA gtx570 OC edition cards using aquamac's efi string method using the nvidia drivers included in the lion installer (with of course some device id inserts and boot.plist tweaks). Was raring to run 3 videocards but I needed the last slot for the decklink 3d card. If you're willing to go the "complicated" route then this should be the way to go.

Is the GTX570 actually faster than a Quadro 4000 ? I see that the EVGA GTX570 is actually more expensive than the PNY Quadro4000 for mac by about 40 dollars.... is there any advantage in getting the card and hacking it vs. just installing the Quadro4000 which is by the way a single slot card?

:= with a machete is not necessary to use efi string and 'already' including

yes GTX is better of quadro 4000 if you use for cuda application, why 4000 is 256 cuda and 570 is 480cuda only for this. Is more expensive gtx..... where? no possible 570 is about 300 dollar and quadro about 700 dollar. You buy 2 gtx for same price.

thanks

i should try that :w00t:

I think he is talking about mac videocards, not what we use, sir. :)
