Hi all, we have just posted on the BMD support web site DaVinci Resolve 9.1.5. This is a no charge update for existing Mac, Windows and Linux users. There is also a 9.1.5 Lite for Mac and Windows users.

There are no database changes for this update so it should be simple to install and we recommend that you do so when your project schedule permits.

What's new in DaVinci Resolve 9.1.5
• Support for Avid Media Composer 7.0 round-trip
• Support for reel names from FCPX XML
• Support for Avid EuControl Software Package Version 3.0
• Improved handling of multi-track Quicktime audio files
• Improved DNG format support
• General performance and stability improvements

Hey Peter, there's a bug that I've reported to tech support twice since 9.1.3 that still hasn't been addressed. When using Resolve on a Macbook Pro Retina, the keyboard and mouse will freeze after a certain amount of time of not using them. Maybe 5 minutes or so. Upon pressing keys or trying to use the trackpad, nothing happens for nearly 5 seconds. External mouse and keyboard work fine with no issues (built-in keyboard and mouse will still have the issue when externals connected). The person I talked to at tech support confirmed the issue. Wondering when this will be fixed?

It doesn't happen with any other applications, so how could that be an OS issue? I just checked release dates. The problem appeared as soon as I upgraded Resolve to 9.1 and the full license in January for a feature I was working on. I was already at OSX 10.8.2 long before that and 10.8.3 didn't come out until March, after that feature was completed.

Hey Peter. Some fellow RUs and I were looking into Round Trip workflows with Premiere CC and Resolve, any suggestions, links to help us out?

Thanks in advance for taking the time, much appreciated.

Hi Mike, I'm just going on advise I have.
This link indicates a number of others see this too.

Hi Peter,

Thanks for responding. It sounds like the people in that thread are experiencing the issue system-wide without any applications running, even right after startup, and a couple of the users had the issue occurring as far back as OSX 10.7. The issue I'm referring to only occurs when Resolve is running. If Resolve is not running everything is fine. Start Resolve and the built-in keyboard and trackpad stop functioning properly. Quit Resolve and everything works as it's supposed to. The problem began immediately after a Resolve update. I had already been on OSX 10.8.2 for at least 2 months before that update without the problem occurring.

I also tried all of the suggestions in that thread to fix the problem (except re-installing OSX) and none of them worked. In fact, starting my MBPr in Safe Mode caused Resolve to disconnect from all the databases I had. I've been using Resolve since v8 and was not aware of the new disk-based database option, so had a real difficult time remembering all of my databases and exact names (I use a separate database for every project I work on). Fortunately I found a file deep in the Postgres folder (I had to copy the data folder out of there to be able to access it) that had a list of the actual database names. I think it would be best of Resolve defaulted to the disk-based databases. I wonder how many users from before v9 aren't aware of the disk-based option.

Hi Mike,

This is a OSX issue which started with 10.8. If you go back to 10.7.5, the problem goes away. It's only seen when running Resolve as the bug affects access to USB devices and both the trackpad and resolve dongle are USB.

Regards,
Rohit

I don't understand. The issue did not occur under OSX 10.8.0 or 10.8.1 for me. I was already at 10.8.2 and using Resolve 9.0.4 with no problem occurring. I upgraded to 9.1 when it was released while still using OSX 10.8.2 and the issue started occurring. Maybe Apple changed something in the OS and BMD needs to alter their code in Resolve a little to compensate. If it was something that was purely an OS issue I would expect it to occur with other applications, but it does not at all. That's just what seems logical to me, based on how and when the issue started. Anyway, hopefully I won't have to deal with the issue much longer since I'm building a Hackintosh.

Hey Peter

My copy of Resolve is not showing the BM codec for rendering, despite me having installed Desktop Video. It shows up in other apps like Premiere. How can I get Resolve to re-load all the available codecs?

Hi Paul, which specific codec r u referring too? OS?
Have you re-installed Resolve?
Peter

Hi Peter

The BM 10bit codec is missing from the list of available QT rendering options in Resolve. I have already gone through the complete de-installation and re-installation of both Resolve and Desktop Video. The codecs are visible and usable in Premiere and AE, but not Resolve. I really need it, too, so that I can produce 4K video which FFMBC can convert to Pro-Res 444

Hi Mike,

You are welcome to go back to 9.0.4 and verify it. I can't reveal any more detail unfortunately. All we can say is that we expect this issue to be resolved with the next OS dot update.

Regards,
Rohit

I'm in the middle of a project, so I can't go back to an earlier version, plus the updates have fixed or changed other things that I need. But you're saying that it's verified that OSX 10.8.5 beta fixes the problem, or is just hoping? I feel that Apple cannot always be relied on concerning things like this if it is an OS issue, especially since it's been so long already.

I just wanted to give an update on the keyboard/trackpad freezing problem I've been having. I've been wanting the ability to be able to run Resolve on set without the dongle for productions that are shooting 1080p. I ended up uninstalling Resolve, installing Resolve Lite, renaming the app to "Resolve Lite", and then installing the full version again. I can now run either the full (with dongle) or Lite version (without dongle) and....

... the keyboard/trackpad freezing problem has gone away (at least for now). That's the only thing I did. No change to the OS or any settings at all. So I'm still not sure it's an OS issue.
