  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

DaVinci Resolve 7.1 Update

Thrilled- AWESOME update. Just two things

Thrilled- AWESOME update. Just two things

This update answers my most serious question regarding Resolve- lack of expansion in the Mac Pro. Its an exciting update.

Although I never asked for it, being able to use multiple GPU's in Resolve makes it vastly more attractive.

It is no longer a question of if I'll drop Color, but rather how quickly I can do so. (and I'll get to my remaining issue)

I am also thrilled with the specific addition of ATI cards for the GUI. I'm still likely to use a Quadro 4000 for the GUI card, but it is a huge cost saver when considering a new system that happens to include an ATI card.

The main thing I am requesting is EUCON support in Resolve. Specifically, I'd love to be able to use the Euphonix Artist Series panels in Resolve. Of course most important is the MC Color, but I'd also like to be able to use MC Control (particularly the touch panel and encoders) and MC Transport.

I use these with Color and most of my other post tools. Going from a great set up like that to no control surfaces in Resolve is more than a mere annoyance.

If you can support the MC Mix as well , that would be nice, but I don't really see why you need lots of audio faders in Resolve. Perhaps audio faders can be mapped to non-audio parameters as a linear encoder?

OK, enough about Euphonix panels.

I'd also like to add a vote for improved support of audio in general.

Resolve is not my audio finishing tool by a long shot. I just want to be able to drop in audio I've received from elsewhere (say an updated mix or a score created after I started coloring as examples), and to pass through any audio without creating any problems downstream- regardless of the sources of audio.

Could someone please explain why a 30000 or 60000 software package has still advantage instead of this?????

seems to be no good for Iridas and Scratch, or am I mistaken???

or this finally the one thing I had been waiting or affraid off, that it comes to damn cheap and is available for anyone, which makes it quiet dangerous to invest in.

OK, installed the upgrade and it stopped to recognize the quadro fx 4800 card, just the GT120. I'm on a 2009 nehalem macpro with no issues before this upgrade.
Any ideas?

I had the same problem.

You have to remove the dvi cables from the 4800.
Then it see's the 120 as the GUI and the 4800 as the powerhouse

same problem here paul:(
will try to reinstall the old version tmrw.

Hi Tony,

Here are a few things to check:

1. Q4800FX in slot1 and GT120 in slot2
2. GUI monitor plugged into GT120. This monitor should be set as the main display, i.e. should have the Mac menu bar at the top.
3. No DVI cables plugged into Q4800FX

If this still doesn't help, you can add these lines in the Debug section of "Preferences" to force the old behavior of detecting which CUDA card to use for processing.

LsManager.3.NumGPUs = 1
LsManager.3.GPUMapping = 0
LsManager.3.GPUMappingEnable = 1

You will have to Save and restart Resolve for these settings to take effect.

Please contact our support at davincihelp@blackmagic-design.com if you continue to have issues with this. Please send the output of the System Profiler as a XML file. Thanks!

Ahh, thanks! It's a shame F1 and F2 will set keyframes for every possible attribute though, that makes them less useful. Where did you find this information?

I just noticed pressing 'alt' will do something with some menus as well, notably the 'windows' menu.

Is there a shortcut to hide/show the windows anywhere? I know there is 'cursor on/off' on the panel but it is not the same as hide/show windows and it is probably what I would use most if it was there.

There will be proper documentation for this soon, but this should be useful meanwhile:

F7: Undo
F8: Redo
F9: Step Node > (ALT: Add Serial)

F4: Grab Still
F5: Play Still
F6: Step Node < (ALT: Add Parallel)

F1: Start Dynamic
F2: Mark
F3: Basemem (ALT: Basemem Reset)

The bottom keys:

Prev Clip (ALT: First Frame)
Next Clip (ALT: Last Frame)
Play Rev (ALT: Step Reverse)
Stop
Play Fwd (ALT: Step Forward)

You can use Session - ALL/Color/PTZR to choose where the marks are placed. By default, the marks are placed on all lines, if you choose Color, they are placed only on the current node, and same for PTZR (Sizing).

View - Window Outline is perhaps what you are after.

Ah, thanks for that.

View - Window Outline is perhaps what you are after.

View - window outline works, but erratically: when the icon under the viewing screen is selected it will hide and show the outline, but it takes two key presses to hide and one to show. And when the icon is not selected nothing happens but it still works in the background so you might wonder where the outlines went all together. Ideally I would like a shortcut that works just like clicking on the icon.

Another question: I am trying to load audio and the waveform shows up, but when I want to play it says: 'Audio initialization has failed. Check log file for errors.' Now where is the log file? Looking for it everywhere...

Thanks for the help!

One more thing: at the moment the jog shuttle on the wave panel is very unresponsive, up to the point where it is not really usable. Any plans for that?

It's a three way toggle:

1. GUI + SDI
2. GUI only (nice when you have clients watching the projector and only you see the GUI monitor)
3. Disabled completely

Waveform shows up but the audio initialization fails. Hmmm...

Please make sure the audio is 48 Khz.

Thanks again Rohit.. You are the man!

thank you rohit

the quadro 4800 is ( ? ) back no error sign ( the performance is max 20 fps and slow response at all - was much better with 7.0 )
i have to put the rocket card into the 2nd slot because of the speed

Hi Tony,

Could you please contact our support at davincihelp (at) blackmagic-design.com? Please do send a log captured with /Library/Application Support/Blackmagic Design/DaVinci Resolve/CaptureLogs.app and a summary of the issue you are running into.

Thanks,
Rohit

Is anybody having issues with resizing, softening, moving their power windows (except with circular - this one works as it should) when you Alt + Add Node With a Power Window (Rectangle etc etc)...

SAME here! Any update on this ?
