Upgrading your PostgreSQL database server on Mac

Until DaVinci Resolve 12.5.2, the Mac installer used to ship with PostgreSQL version 8.4.2. Starting from macOS Sierra 10.12, PostgreSQL version 8.4 is no longer supported. If you intend to upgrade to the latest OS, you will need to upgrade your PostgreSQL database server to version 9.5.4 prior to upgrading macOS. Once your PostgreSQL installation has been upgraded and your data has been ported, you can then proceed with your macOS upgrade.

We have provided apps to simplify upgrading your PostgreSQL version on your Mac.The apps along with instructions can be found in the:

/Library/Application Support/Blackmagic Design/DaVinci Resolve/Upgrade PostgreSQL
folder. Starting from DaVinci Resolve 12.5.3, new installations will include PostgreSQL version 9.5.4.

I’m thinking version 16 on Monday! Saw the banners in Vegas.

I'm surprised there isn't a more detailed "Read Me" file of what has been changed from 15.3...

Marc,

there probably wasn't a significant enough change between the two to warrant a Readme file. I think a Davinci Resolve 16 Beta will most likely be released Monday or shortly afterward.

Blackmagic Design has published a new banner on their website promoting DaVinci Resolve 16 with the tag line ‘The revolution in editing starts at 9AM PDT on April 8th 2019.’

It feels so great to have switched over to Davinci, they are really disruptive.
Is it possible to have both a beta and a release version installed?

Joel,

Unlike Redcine-X, I don't think it would be a good idea to have both installed at the same time. I've never tried to do it myself, I always uninstalled one before installing another.

all of the movies in the banner were edited on media composer. whatever they have done in 16 they are gunning for avid. maybe they bought avid who knows

That's an interesting hypothesis Bing! But who knows what they will actually have in store for us in Resolve 16.

Bing,

Others have made your same observation.

".....It will be interesting in what BM is going to give editors and colourists in this version but the banner above is an interesting choice. Eagle eyed film editors have noted that a number of the film posters dictated were actually cut using Avid Media Composer. One hopes that BM are using the posters to signify what their software will be capable of and not a false adverting mistake....."

i'd be pretty sure some BMD product was used on every show on the banner, maybe not cut or graded, or dalies..... but perhaps dubs or i/o cards or router or, Fusion comps or Terennex converions, or, or, or.... there's alot of stuff under BMD's umbrella aside from Resolve...

Dermot,

I didn't think of that, thanks for bringing this up!

Marcus,

I'm curious to see what they have done as well. I used Media Composer since version 2.5 and I left Media Composer at Version 8.6. I just thought it was getting a little "long in the tooth" as compared to what Adobe Premiere, Final Cut Pro and what Davinci Resolve was doing at that time. Hopefully they have finally seen the light .You can only live on the fact of touting that 80% or so of Hollywood films are made with it for just so long. It will be nice to see "An Old Friend" doing better. But I'm not looking back after using Davinci Reslove.
