Resolve 10 timeline and video monitoring options ...
Correct ... you should set your timeline resolution for the output resolution you want to deliver ... then set your Video Out monitoring resolution to match the rez of your monitor or projector ... let Resolve take care of the scaling.
On the 'Red Dress' project we just graded we set the Resolve timeline for 6K and then Video out monitoring for either 2K when we were grading on the Barco in the DI theater or HD when grading on the Sony BVM in the lab.
This is exactly the level of detail we'll be going into with Peter Chamberlain (Resolve Product Manager and Design Architect) when we run our Resolve 10 Workflow workshop with him on Oct 25th ... Resolve has matured into a very sophisticated grading and finishing tool now ... I'm always learning new things on every project we work on ... it'll be fascinating to hear it from the 'horses mouth'.
Cheers.

Thanks Neil - haven't received our 84" displays yet, but they've been ordered. I am waiting now to see when the Mac Pros might come out, before I know whether I need to buy another GPU or will have the new Mac in time.
Thanks for the offer to visit next time I'm in LA - I would love to see your setup. Pechanga is not too far from LA.
I do have one more Resolve question. When grading, I had set my timeline to 1080p and then output in UHD. But the renders were soft. Then I set my timeline to UHD and output in UHD and it was much sharper. So it does matter what your timeline is when you output it appears. Have you found that to be the case?
