i downloaded the lite version again and now i know what everybody is talking about....
i am shooting epic, soon dragon and for my work, my first step is almost always to go into rcx, set basic look and export 5K TIFF stills....
in davinci lite HD seems to the limit....i keep looking over the davinci manual but only find info for 4K and i am assuming that this is not because it can't handle 5K but only finishes in 4K, which means it will only give me 4K stills....
is the limit for stills output 4K? or can i get 5K and soon 6K?
i have been looking at the BMC and for 2000$ incl software i would love to start working with davinci but i really need the full size stills....if the paid version can't give me that, i will stay with lite for now....

You can render 5K. You can also set a manual resolution. Don't know about 6K since Dragon isn't out yet.
thanks mike...yes, obviously we don't know about dragon yet but i am pretty sure that a future version will be able to handle dragon....
i saw the manual resolution setting but lite won't let me put anything in over HD resolution....
i guess i will have to get a full version....question is...with or without camera:)

The "Lite" version only outputs HD resolution but can take in any resolution as source. You need the dongle to have higher than HD on output renders/exports. Other differences as well. A quick search on the Blackmagic design website shows the following comparison chart between the different versions:

Although it is for v10, it is relatively close to v9 versions other than the new features found in v10.

Right. I was talking about the full version.

waiting for my full version 9 right now....and the camera that (more or less) comes with it:)
was wondering about v10 as well...

Paul - since the full version of the software always seemed like it would be worth even more than the $995 they charge, I agree, it does seem like you are getting a free camera when you buy the BMCC for $1995.

i actually got it for even less with my asmp discount....yes....it's a no brainer....

anything at B&H....in this case it was 5%....it varies....there is also a nice discount at apple, at&t and quite a few other places that usually get my money anyway....
