  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

DANA DOLLY - CURVED TRACK?

Dana Dolly now even makes curved track. I've seen it with my own two eyes:

Shoot them an email on their website. It's a fairly new product.

Whoooooa, awesome. Do you think this would work with their standard bracket? (not the "universal" one shown?)

I believe it would actually, but it's best to shoot them an email. I'm still using straight track in pipe form and also their 9 foot track kit. Haven't needed the curved yet, but when I played with it at Cine Gear 2015 I can see how it would become really useful for interviews for sure.

I really have to hand it to Mike man. They are the little company that could. The Dana Dolly is one of the most "ripped off" pieces of gear industry wide. No judgement there, but it just shows how fundamental this bit of kit has become.

Ever since they made that bolt on 100mm plate it's allowed me to minimize my Dana Dolly kit when on site so I can just bring the OG model or the newer Hi-Hat model on set and leave the rest at home that I'm not using. They made that plate completely based on customer feedback. I appreciate stuff like that.

Yeah, I hadn't been on the Dana Dolly site since I got mine probably a year and half ago, just saw the bolt on plates and I think I might have to order one!

not to jack the thread - im tired of renting - which "dolly" in this class, - small that you can travel with, do you recommend? (sounds like the Dana gets some love in this thread:)

Dana Dolly is pretty fantastic. And ubiquitous (at least in NYC).

I have the normal Dana Dolly and the original "classic" brackets. It all fits pretty much perfectly in my Pelican 1550 case (significantly smaller than their rental package, although I just wrap the brackets in domke wrap and call it good).

I have the American Dana Dolly stands with casters. I've flown with it before, threw the stands in a Tripak tube + the 1550. Upon arrival, we stopped at a hardware store and grabbed some conduit for dirt cheap. Works great if you're flying into an area without time for rental pickup or like our situation there was no rental place to speak of.

If you plan on traveling with it a ton, they sell track that can break down into smaller sections, but I don't really fly with mine enough to justify buying that track.

It's not as travel friendly as a slider, mainly due to the rails and larger stands you need for it, but very few sliders can compare to the dolly-like smoothness of the Dana Dolly. It just has that mass and inertia that's hard to get from a slider. But if you want a great slider that is self-contained and perfect if you need something that's always ready-to-go, check out the Trost slider.
