  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Custom Steadicam for REDusers <1800USD - Post your ideas

Mike, I'll later sent you by PM link to information of power options provided by Laing, all of them will be tested and approved by engineers first. Including Red Epic/One specific ones.

After some time I'll add specs and information.

I'll also provide link to discussion about power options.

Just leave, David. I have no intention to talk with you and will fully ignore any of your posts.

Vitaliy, I am not sure why you have had such a short tone and attitude with so many people throughout this thread, including myself...We are all working towards to the same goal here. You have asked questions of what we want in the custom steadicam and we are simply sharing and responding with our hopes and suggestions for the product. But calling out David as he is only trying to help is uncalled for. He has been incredibly selfless, helpful and is the reason why many redusers are getting some fantastic deals on steadicams now. We owe him a lot, so it would certainly be appreciated if you could rethink your attitude on these forums.

There is no reason why we can't have a civil conversation on here that helps us arrive at the final goal of a great and low budget final product that will be a great asset to many of our productions and businesses. Thanks

This attitude right here is why I had, and am still having, serious doubts about doing business with any company you represent. To say that to the guy who ORGANIZED the buy that will (or could have) brought Laing a lot of business because you are apparently too threatened by experienced camera owners/operators offering (perhaps inconvenient or contrary) wisdom about connectors and power ratings is ludicrous. Do you really expect your behavior here to attract people to this buy?

And to get back to substantive matters, your information about an included power cable with Epic is very wrong. The only power "cable" that comes with Epic is a CAPTIVE CABLE attached to a voltage converter for running the camera off of AC power.

Epic/Scarlet uses a 1B Lemo 6-pin connector as shown (in female variety) in this item. Please click on the insert picture right underneath the product showing the pin configuration in blow up.

Red One apparently uses 2B Lemo 6-pin connector as shown (also in female variety) here.

The power port on the back of Epic/Scarlet is a 1B Lemo 6-pin MALE jack, so plan cables and boxes accordingly.

Tyler, let's keep this topic on rig. And I am intending to do so myself.

Let's just leave it all here. I think I made error posting some things and being emotional, you won't see it again. You can send me PM and I fully back up my words with data.

And no, I am not "too threatened". If you go back to my posts you understand that we just talk about different things and on different level.

I did not provided any information, all I told is one of my talks with Epic owner. As I understand some time red provided such cable and it is not so now, or he bough it as option.

No need to make it bold, it is long time known information and enginners are aware of this weeks ago, all connectors and pinouts are present in manuals also.

People people :) . Calm down. Everyone, on both sides. Let's be professional about this and focus on the technical aspects and let's leave the soap opera antics outside. :violin: So much drama

COULDN'T AGREE MORE Elizabeth! Sheesh. Honestly, I don't know how I feel doing business under these circumstances... with all due respect its starting to feel awkward and kind of shady.......but I understand we are all human and can get emotional ;-)

Vitaliy - Just a recommendation, but the ONLY way you will get my business is IF/ WHEN a large faction of Reduser interested in the rig "approves" the necessary changes to make it highly compatible with a Red One or Epic/ Scarlet. And a BIG part behind this is having an unbiased user re-review the new laing rig by someone TRULY interested in buying a decent rig (which was done earlier in the process).

I for one will need to see positive, unbiased reviews of the final product. So, I HIGHLY suggest when the rig is "approved" by the Reduser community that your company send out a couple demo copies to be tested/ reviewed by elected Redusers. Hell, even if they bought the Proline...who cares. Or demo it at NAB. ;-)

Anyone other Reduser interested in potentially buying the Reduser Laing rig agree with me??

Yes, Adam, I definitely agree. Because the basic rig was tested by Kwan and Dave, I'm not too worried that this rig won't perform at least as well, but I'm definitely going to see what kind of return policies and customer service assurances Laing is going to offer because Vitaliy's attitude gives me great pause about what I might face should my rig have a defect or should I have a fit or other issue once it's received. I completely disagree with Sebastian that having concerns over this part of the transaction based on Vitaliy's repeated, sometimes egregious lapses in courtesy, facile defensiveness, and unwillingness to respectfully engage with those expressing opposing points of view is in any way "soap opera antics." I call it prudent acknowledgement and confrontation of a very obvious problem with interpersonal relations, which goes to the CORE of how well any customer service issue will be resolved.

I have not yet watched Kwan's new test footage as indicated in post 391. Will do that shortly.

BTW, in copy/pasting in my previous post, I apparently had the wrong stuff in the clipboard and listed the Epic as having a 2B jack when it's obviously a 1B. Corrected it in the post.

Is there a way to be emailed once something is finalized for a Reduser Steadicam groupbuy ; )

Just ready and wanting to pick one up as soon as possible and hard to keep track with all the posts and different threads..

Please and thank you

Michael

I am here to make rig fully suitable to members needs. Members who participated in surveys and who actually want to buy product.
I am not here to convice you to buy something or "do business".

NAB is hardly option, I think, as no one provided place and guarantees, plus China has holidays now. I talked to few people and companies but it did not resulted in anything useful.

It is custom rig that requires certain minimum quantity of units for factory to manufacture. And company is not rich or big enough for sending multiple demo units for free, unfortunately.
I am sure we'll find method and approach how we'll do tests.

but I'm definitely going to see what kind of return policies and customer service assurances Laing is going to offer because Vitaliy's attitude gives me great pause about what I might face should my rig have a defect or should I have a fit or other issue once it's received.

If you think that I am here as Laing service department, you are wrong. :-)
My attitude has one and only goal - to talk about facts and requirements and implement all features needed by members. Period.
I made few errors, yep. Hope it'll be less in the future.
If you do not understand something or have doubts, just send me PM. I'll explain every point and my position.

Vitaliy - I'm not saying give the rigs away free, but send maybe one Rig to a group of us for testing purposes so we can review and approve the changes made to the rig. We would send back to you. Sign a contract, whatever is necessary to get this done! It is imperative in my opinion to have an unbiased user review of the product.

I'll talk with with participating group buy members and we find same approach.

That's hardly my point. If I thought you were actually going to handle service or return issues, I'd KNOW to keep away. It's the fact that you are fronting as the "face" or mouthpiece for a company in a community as influential and high profile as this one. The specifics of your role matter much less than the poor judgment reflected in the decision to allow you to interface with the people here.

Well, in fact I warned Vitaly after his first posts, a month ago, by a PM to be careful how he phrases his sentences because people here might be offended or might distrust him. So I don't think we are in complete disagreement about this.
All I said there is no need for insults, accusations and excuses. And that goes for both parties. We should just state what we want, or make a list or a poll (which I think we already did) and Vitaly should just respond with what can or can't be done and why. Simple :)

Sebastian, I support your position.

And as I said, Laing will provide power solutions suitable for specific needs of group buy members.

Right now we don't have too many things to discuss, all things are clear, like option with LEMO cables going out of battery plates and 6-pin connectors path.

I'll get back with information concerning next boxes prototypes.

Red Scarlets

Red Scarlets

I read all the posts and I have some opinions and questions if anyone could help please.

When is the rig going to be done?

Would it help time to market to just engineer for scarlet/epic and seperate model for Redone since they dont produce it anymore?

How will it be tested and how soon could I get one for 1,800 if it is legit?

AND if it is going to be a while does anyone know the next best rig to get in this 1,500-2,500 range?

I will say one thing there is alot of great ideas going into this rig by everyone and I like what this could be.

The reason I logged into reduser today was to ask if there was any way to hook up a photo strobe to the scarlet?
I am a video guy and this is my first photo shoot on the Scarlet, anyway I am shooting tomorrrow lol Need help
Any tips or pointers from the red community?
:grouphug:

Thanks
Sean
