  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Custom Steadicam for REDusers <1800USD - Post your ideas

So will this be able to fly a semi-rigged Red One? What will be the weight limits of the new design?

Thanks!
Adam

OK, please keep me posted on the progress of the rig and when the Reduser forum has "approved" the final model and it's ready for purchase :)

I for one would like to see a couple of video examples of shots from the updated rig with the re-designed arm. So the tilt function is for sure sticking...I thought it was a negative to the performance? Sorry I'm a steadicam noooob

Hi Vitaly,

Is there any possibility of being able to test out this newly designed Laing Rig at NAB, would be a great opportunity for many Redusers who are going to be down there to get some hands on impressions.

It is very good idea.
But I doubt that I could arrange this as quite short time remains.
I'll try to do as much as I could.

This would be AMAZING! You would have lots of anxious Redusers ready to try it out, and at the very least a few of us could give our 2 cents :)

This would help seal the deal for many of us interested in buying the rig and would probably help you get many more on board. That is, as long as it works well ;)

Do you have someone who'll have exposition at NAB? As I think it is best idea.

As I said, from my said I'll try to do all I can, but from your side I need someone at NAB who have exposition, so it'll be always available during NAB and could show rig.

Small update - http://www.nex-hack.info/wiki/laing-photos

Added photos of monitor mount that use 15mm rods.

And also prototype of bottom box with lemo connectors.

Looks good!

Why did you add two HD-SDI connectors? And is it still an open system? The d-box looks like it's closing the pole, making it impossible to add an HDMI or other cables without removing the box.

Looking forward to the next update.

No one prevents you to use one of BNC connectors for other purposes, as connectors are widely available and very cheap, or use them for dual link interface.
Adding HDMI connector is also planned.

As for closed/open system. It is first prototype box and is optional item. You could remove it. And few other variants and designs are under review.

Awesome, looking great. I look forward to this all being ready. I am racking my brain on any NAB Exhibitors that might be willing to help out... but hopefully somebody else is more qualified than me/has more connections than me to help out on this front?

When does this groupbuy open/close, where do
we order? When are the modifications ready?

I'll post all information. Do not worry.

Company is working as fast as they can with their limited resources.

Hey I just noticed the arm spigot on the dock is horizontal - is it possible to make it at an angle so theres less chance for the arm to fall off if it gets knocked by accident?

new updates look great tho!

Looking pretty good already... Maybe I have to join you on the deal...

Can you make sketch?

Would this model ultimately be modular with other industry standard components? So as we progress with its use, it would be possible to replace the vest, arm or sled? I think this is the case with the other group buy, but this is more in my credit card range at the moment. Cheers.

It is just require to understand that is meant under such marketing terms. In fact only one that I can think about is calling such specific connection of arm and vest.

Laing will be coming with high end items and conatantly work on improvements, and, of course, will provide upgrade path allowing to use new and high-end items with existing rigs.
