Is there a way to make a custom grid overlay? I have tried unsuccessfully with the Red Guide Creator. The default displays thirds but I would like to make a custom overlay for example split the frame in halves. This would be helpful for a VFX shot I am going to be doing.

I needed the same feature to preview a capture that was to be displayed on 5 vertical screens in a store front.
We ended up using a Blackmagic mini Recorder via Thunderbolt in a macbook and the overlay feature in foolcontrol.

created a transparent png with guides and semi transparent safe zones between the screen so clients and post knew which parts of the image will be in between different screens

Two methods.

First, you can get creative with your frame guides and divide them as such if customize them. Useful to save a preset.

Phil Method, I have indeed created an interactive online Frame Guide Maker that creates Transparent PNGs to your specifications.

The tool is called frameAndFocus and can be found at:
http://phfx.com/tools/frameAndFocus/

At the moment Center Guides are adjustable in opacity and will divide on the X and Y, but I'll add a X or Y feature too because of this thread :)

Then how do you apply the transparent PNGs in camera?

You can set the frame guides in camera with the width you are looking to achieve, the frame guides are for monitors that support overlays as well as for use in post.

We should make a friendly feature request for future firmware updates to support custom png overlays in camera.
The custom grids work great for all kind of "classic" formats and safety areas with a centered image, but sometimes that's not enough to preview the final use.

Is it possible to create a quadrant frame guide? just large cross going across the width & height of the monitor.

Wondering if anyone can send me the guide info to input into the action or title safe guide page on DSMC2 to have a line generated down the middle (right through the cross hairs) of a 6K 16x9 Monstro frame. It would sure save A LOT of trial and error!

I spent some time and cracked the code. For anyone needing this in the future, here's the numbers.
