Hi all,

I'm having some teething problems with my shiny new Cubix Resolve setup. Here's the config;

2010 MacPro (Dual Quad 2.4Ghz)
ATI Radeon HD 5770 - In PCIE Slot 1
Cubix Desktop 4 Xpander (4 double width slot model) - In PCIE Slot 2

In the Cubix;
2x GTX 480 (flashed for Mac by Macvidcards)
1x RedRocket
1x Decklink HD Extreme 3D

Resolve 8.1
OS X 10.7.2
RedRocket Driver: 1.4.14
RedRocket Firmware: 1.1.15.4
Decklink 8.6 drivers
Latest CUDA

I'm only getting 18fps half res premium with no nodes....

I've been in touch with BMD, Cubix and Red, but they're still scratching their heads and have given me a list of things to try (THANKS GUYS IF YOU"RE REAQDING THIS!). Some see the RedRocket as being used by DaVinci, some don't, I'll post the logs and system profile below this post so you can decide yourselves.

....but in the meantime I was wondering if anyone has the Decklink and RedRocket cards in a Cubix together and has it working with Resolve? (As is isn't shown in the config for mac guide I'm thinking this could be the problem)

The reason I can't use the remaining x4 slots is because they are being used by ProTools cards (don't ask, it's not my idea to have a turnkey DaVinci/ProTools MacPro! ((Resolve/ProTools installed on separate drives, Resolve on a lovely SSD of course)). OF course if this is the only fix so be it! (and if anyone is keeping up, what are the implications of adding these cards (x2) to the x4 slots..will it slow down the x16 slots?...if so how much, the apple documentation confuses me on this). Maybe I should put the 2x GTX 480's and the ProTools cards in the Cubix and the RedRocket and Decklink in the x4 slots?? ...I know this is a very unique config!

ANY help or suggestions welcome at this point!

Thanks!

p.s. Also posted on CreativeCow in the DaVinci Forum - sorry for copy/paste re-post!

I would take out the Pro Tools cards, put the Decklink in the x4 slot and see.
The total bandwidth of the PICe slots is limited. If Pro Tools cards are taking the bandwidth even the application is not up, then you might have problem.

Hi, if you build the Resolve system following the configuration guide that will set a base point that works. You should start there and then can add other cards for other apps to see what breaks the system and work the problem from there.

Did you remove the Apple graphics power management kext file? Before I did that using the macvideocards GTX 480 I did not have good performance at all. Email him and he will mod the file so you can reinstall.

I have the same setup as far as cubix, rocket, and only one 480 from macvidcards.

I was only getting 19fps until I deleted the kext, now I get 24fps with 14 nodes at half res premium.

anyone getting full res debayer at 24fps in resolve on mac with a cubix?

Yes, I am getting full res at 24fps with a rocket and a flashed GTX 480 in a cubix.
. I can add 7 nodes with blur, sharpen, qualifiers, windows, etc and still get 24fps. Noise reduction drops it down to about 19fps at full res.

I think you have all your bandwidth hungry PCIe cards in teh Cubix ...

can't you put your ProTools cards in the Cubix and put the Rocket and the BMD card in the Mac directly?

Also ... you might want to try one of the GTX480 directly in the Mac's x16 double wide slot. Take your "GUI Only" ATI card into the Cubix.

Actually not that I think about it, will a Mac Pro boot with a GTX480 in it?

Anyway, here is what I am suggesting

Mac Pro
GTX480
CUBIX
ATI Card
GTX480
ProTools 1
ProTools 2
Rocket
Decklink

If you can't boot like that, keep the ATI in teh Mac, so both GTXs are in the CUBIX, but keep them away from your other high bandwidth cards.

Cubix recommends that you don't put your GUI card in the expander. Plus the 480 requires external power that the Cubix supplies. I'm willing to bet that the only problem is the kext removal, it is a required part of getting the 480 to use all it's power on a Mac. I went through the exact same process.

Yup. It was the kext! I'm now getting 25fps full res premium with 10+ nodes including NR. I will stress test the system soon with the Standard Candle test and post results.

Thanks for your advice guys!
