  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

CS6 6.02 update is crazy buggy???

Even if i start a new project and import a r3d file it will have a red bar. When I change to mercury software acceleration, then it changes to yellow. I don't understand what is going on...

Ivan, can you check to see if the red render bar is still there even if you create a new, simple project?
Do your R3D files have 3rd party effects or do they differ from the sequence settings? Do you remember if you had ever generated previews for them?

We tested that in house and our MBP Retina displays a yellow bar with RED content.

LMK,
Wes

I did that. Then reinstalled from my original download of CS6, had the same problems, downloaded the update again and tried with and without the labs.
Do you have a link so I can make sure i'm using the current ones? I got them off the site from a google search so I think I'm good. Still won't playback at anything over 1/16th without jumping around....

This latest build has been working like a charm for me. Before i couldn't get R3d footage to play nicely in my timeline with my 2009 Mac Pro and RedRocket Card now they work just fine.

Nope, Guess I'll reinstall.

Edit:
Reinstalled version 6.0 and still screwed up.... I'm now getting a Media Pending warning and playback is really choppy. I'm using a macbook pro retina without RR.

I got that on my PC as well after the upgrade.

SOLUTION

Create a new sequence and copy/paste your problematic timeline into the new sequence. That fixed it for me!

For what it is worth, I figured out a solution of types for my issue... I have just discovered that if i do a 4K project sequence, or a 5K, it is always red indicating rendering needed, but if I do a 1080p sequence and scale to frame size for all clips, it remains YELLOW....

how odd. Anybody know why this would occur?

When you use Scale to frame size, it actually is more efficient as it actually ignores pixels as a posed to actually scaling it down. You will notice that the scale value is 100 percent on those clips.

Most of my issues are systems Freezes and basically laggyness. Most of the freezes go away if I use software for playback and selecting Cuda crashes every time.

Hi Bob,
Are you having problems with CUDA even with new (fresh) projects?

Wes

I am Running MBPr with Sonnet thunderbolt enclosure for the Red Rocket. If I open an existing project, switching to Cuda with and without running Red Rocket will crash. For a fresh project, Cuda does not crash but only works when Red Rocket is not on. Otherwise a blank screen on playback.

Wes, when is Adobe going to have the R3D support as an installer instead of manually updating the files in the app packages? It would be so much more easier and convenient for Adobe's customers if Adobe just made a simple installer or script for us to use after every update.

It's really nice of Adobe to allow use to use the beta files. It's very simple to update - and they are providing great support to what must be a minority of users within the CS6 community.

On Win7, I use the Directory Opus file manager to search for the file names to be replaced in the Adobe directory. I can then open the folder containing each file, and overwrite the appropriate file.

Probably nearly as simple with Windows Explorer - or with Path Finder on OS X.

It's really too simple to even go to the trouble of making a BAT file to automate it.

UPDATE: I am getting consistent 1/8 playback on rMBP, and off a raid drive 1/4.

I don't know what has changed, but it seems to work great now... only using 75% of cpu which is perfect.

Ive heard speculation from very big brained computer wonk that Adobe has tweeked the player function to use less CPU and more GPU.

I'm running off a really fast raid so that can't be the issue. What player setting are you on? openCL, CUDA or software...
Also are you talking about 5k footage or 4k footage?
I really don't know whats up with mine.

After re-installed the Red Importer Plugins, the image is now showing; however, the audio is gone.

Anyone has the same problem? Running Premiere 6.02 on MacPro OSX 10.8.1

EDIT - The audio actually plays for a second at the source window and then drop out completely!!!

I'll just add to the list, brought here because I was searching for the lagging issues after the update.

Seem to be having all over lag on playback and hanging. Problems with Rocket now as well. Could be the update, could be coincidence, however updated mid-edit and there's a noticeable difference.

Tehben,

I am using CUDA. Open CL doesn't work as well. In fact, I cant tell the diff between open CL and software. Have you complained to adobe? I have tried both 5k and 4k footage.

Works best if i throw it onto a 1080p timeline and scale to size.

Just adding my two cents. Re-installing the RED importers/etc fixed my issues, the footage is now connecting to the old project timelines. Copying the timelines and pasting the project would NOT work for me, so had to reinstall just those plugins.

Also noticing considerable lag in comparison to previous iterations. Running Retina Display Macbook Pro w/ Mountain Lion. Even with the lag, I'm just glad it's somewhat working now.

Haha, WOW. As soon as I finished typing that and went back to my project, the footage disappeared after glitching out for a second. Still getting audio, but now just a black sequence window. Kinda hilarious. Closing the project and reopening is showing just total macroblocking, no actual image. This is starting to get interesting...
