Support, man.
Glad you're o.k. Shocking stuff.

Best wishes.

Ketch,
I'm so sorry man, thank God you're going okay. Thank you for passing on your story.

If you don't mind, what caliber was the gun that shot you and where did it strike? I'm just very curious. If you take offense to such a bold question then feel free to ignore it.

Hi shawn, thanks for carryng, and I have no reson to get offended as I decided to share my misfortune little Graislist adventure with the all Reduser comunity but if you look at my #27 post of this thread you will see that5 I already put that info, just so I do not repeat my post here.

Thanks again for your support.

Those 22 calibers are crazy, tumbling inside the body. I heard of one guy (well, two different guys actually) that got shot in the forehead with a .22 and the bullet zigzagged 90-degrees just behind the skull, exiting out the side of the head. No brain damage or lasting effects other than the entry/exit wounds.

What did the guy look like that robbed you? Any distinguishing features? I'd ask his name but it was probably a fake and probably useless to keep an eye out for it in the future.

lead

lead

I hope your body doesn't absorb any toxins from the metals in the bullet.

I remember seeing on TV, that if you get a lead bullet in the knee or other joint, the acid in the joint will dissolve the lead and wil poison you. But if the bullet is not in a joint, you can leave it there and not worry too much about lead poisoning.

Can metal detectors pick up a bullet lodged in a torso? I'd think you'd want to remove it just to allow faster times getting through customs.

Sorry for your terrible experience, Ketch. This brings up something I've been wondering about myself for some time now. I recently moved into a house. So, naturally, I bought a gun for "home defense." Not that I DIDN'T need it in the apartment (where it was arguably a much more dangerous area). But if I ever had an encounter with a home invader, would I shoot?

I bought a Mossberg 500 18.5"-barrel shotgun (see below). I bought both buckshot and slugs. Now, if I aim this thing at a would-be attacker and pull the trigger, that guy's going to be history. Do I wanna blow a guy totally away that's just trying to steal some Nikons? I asked the gun store guy, "Why can't I just load the first round with a blank shell?" Everyone I ask (including police officers) always says, "Don't do that. Shoot to kill."

My reasoning is that most home invasion burglers are just out for a few easy bucks, and that the sound of a menacing shotgun blast alone would be enough to scare them off. I don't want to kill them. But being a handheld camraman, I'm also a pretty darn good shot with a handgun or rifle (even though this shotgun is the first weapon I've ever owned).

Here's what I would like to do: Load the first round with a blank shell. The second round with a buckshot shell, and the third round with the slug. At the first sign of an intruder (with no visual), I fire the blank shell into the air. I kill nobody, and scare 99.999% of any would-be attacker off before any live rounds are fired. The second round, the buckshot, would take him out at close range. The third round, the slug, can put someone down at longer ranges, without injuring any bystanders. The gun is right next to my bed, unloaded, with no gun lock; the only rounds readily available are the ones on the side saddle. Extra ammunition is kept in a locked metal cabinet.

The sound of that first live round racking into the chamber is warning enough. If that doesn't make them pee their pants and change their ways there is little hope for the blank. Also a blank can be lethal in a confined area. (not to mention knocking pictures off the wall)

The old timers liked rock salt. (also deadly if too close). There are also rubber balls and beanbags. Only if you want to get sued.

I like #8 shot. Its not as likely to find your neighbors house through the wall, and a slug is just going to leave big holes in your own stuff.

I don't have a gun to protect my stuff. There is no ones life worth so little as to send him to hell over a piece of inanimate matter. My guns are to protect my wife, daughter, and three little boys. So if I have to shoot some-one in my house, I have a backhoe and a rose garden. What can I say I was raised in the woods.

That shotgun might be too powerful if you're concerned about the life of the intruder. Buy yourself a small 9mm and the attacker might have a chance at staying alive after you've fired a round in him.

Backhoe! lol

Wonderful tool. Is it a Case 580k extendahoe? Very popular model here in the Northwest. Lotsa of scenic land around here too.
Interesting name for a production house you got there. lol

Christ! I think you fellas need to be more concerned with getting hold of some decent gun control laws in your country than a bloody 4k camera.

Gun control = He who has the guns, has control

Gun control = hitting what you aim at

Gun control = outlaw guns, and only outlaws will have guns

All government enforcement is ultimately backed up by fire power. In a government of the people, by the people, and for the people, taking away the fundamental right to bear arm's is paramount to enslaving them to the will of a dictatorship.

It has happened through-out history "lay down your arms" "we will protect you""look how safe you are" BAM you're a slave.

Just ask the German Jews of the 1940's how that plan worked out.

It would be great if this thread didn't vear off into a gun control debate.. which I feel could so easily happen. I am sure we all have different views about that as we do about religion and politics generally.

When I was younger I sucked at video games and in combat I was always Blownapart, so that became my screen name. When I got better I went by Stryker for a short time but found that Blownapart was more unique. It rolled over into what I think is a good production name. Blownaprtstudios. I haven't actually had time to build the studio yet. Probably this fall if all goes right.

My dad was a hard rock miner when I was little and we used to have dynamite in the garage. I love blowing things up. In a pyro-technic sort of way. (safe and controlled. Don't take me wrong on that). nobody gets hurt. it's a rule

That´s totally right, Martin. And to my knowledge such discussions always (ALWAYS) lead completely off-track, like it already did with "blownapart's" remark on jews that could have defended themselves in nazi-germany - that idea alone is like suggesting to put off a fire with liquid hydrogen.

Sorry mate but that's complete and utter rubbish - most western nations have strict gun control laws nowadays, and a tiny fraction of the gun-related violence that the United States has. And that's never going to change without getting rid of that ridiculous 2nd amendment.

I know this is off topic, so this will be my last post about it.

Ketch,

so sorry to hear this happened to you. all the best for your recovery from our whole team!
