Wow, I am blown away.
I am so happy you are here thats really what matters in the end.

Makes me wish I were there.
They don't call me BigLu for nothing.
I feel I want to post a similar add and catch them.
Robbers don't do it just once and usually its not there first time.

Similar things seem to happen to people selling
Shitzu puppies.

Im am very happy you are all good Ketch.
Thank you for sharing such a tragic event.
It's something to take for the rest of my life.

Luie
(2003 one night, carjacked at gun point, strip searched out of my car at gun point to my back, lost everything at gun point )

Hey Luie,

You must be some reader to have found this long burried thread.

I thank you for your kind words of support, truly appreciated, and yes I would have love to have a big guess staying in with me that day.

This guys were pros and I'm convinced, and so were the Detectives, that it was not his first and will not have been his last time doing this kind of stuff.

His questions about the merchandise for sale were all related to sick out info about my place who leaved with me, any childrens or such etc.

Fortunately I have been recovering well, apart for the constant fever brake outs do to the bullet still inside of me and the reaction with the heavy doses of Antiregection medications that I take daily.

I'm not sure I understand correct, was the carjack at gunpoint event happened to you?

Ciao,

KETCH ROSSI

Ketch,

Thank you for the warning as I am in the process of selling some gear as we speak and I will make sure to meet people at the coffee shop across from the Scientology Celebrity center where there are always lots of security people roaming around :)

Your strength and positive attitude are inspiring. No dought you will go on to have a full and rewarding life while the criminal who tried to take your life away will end up either dead or in prison.

I know this happend a while back but I will still be thinking positive things for you in the days to to come.

Ketchi maybe the guys who robbed you.

Ketchi maybe the guys who robbed you.

Hey Ketch Hope you are doing better! Me and my son went to buy a Canon 100-400 adverted on CL for some sports photography he does. $900 was the price. We went to starbucks in Irvine. Nobody showed. Two guys in a dirty corolla looking real shady drove by us though and left. We left after 20 mins.
I emailed the guy back looking to meet again and no reply. I used a differnent email account and asked if the lens was still available and the guy emailed me back saying it was. Called the Irvine police and talked to them about it and they said can't help? Anyways we did buy a 20d body from a photographer upgrading, had 4000 activations for 540 off CL. Man it sure was sketchy though. Nice old photo guy though.
Here's the guys email address

Here's his reply
Hey, I still got it. It's mint condition, literally... no problems
with it at all... let's set a date and time to meet
This would make a good RED movie no?
Cheers Jim

P.S. That was a messed up post at the end. The email part was the bad guys
stuff not the good old photo guy! Thanks Jim

Hey Davis,

yes do be very careful.

I tank you kindly for your words and support, that it is always needed and appreciated, now more then ever.

Hey Jim,

thanks, I'm way better, and you also do good to be careful, especially one with your son.

It is incredible the amount of criminals praying on unsuspecting victims or trusting (and a bit stupid ones ) like my self (not anymore).

Jee. sometimes the off topic forums are so much on topic. Ketch, reading your story was quite an emotional thing. I have to say that I am truly fascinated with your strong attitude and your positive thoughts. I wish you a super speedy recovery and getting in a good health shape fast so that we all could watch your movies.

PS I am not sure but would have security cameras helped in this situation? I mean post factum, aiding the detectives to catch the gunman? Sometimes it is ironic how camera operators we are obsessed too much with our precious babies and we do not put a ceiling camera or two to protect both us and our investment.

Thank God you're ok Ketch. That's all that really matters and hopefully be more alert next time. It's unfortunate but your tragedy should be lessons to others. I'm no BigLu myself but I'm not gun shy either.

Hello Ketch -

Zowie Zing! What a inspirational person you are!

Since my REDUSER addiction began last fall, you have been one of my heroes on the site ... and this was without having even read this post.

My appreciation for your stellar character has now multiplied ... many-fold.

I should hope that I might meet you in person one day to thank you for shining so brightly. May all the abundant kudos and blessings that you deserve find you NOW!

Peace, Elizabeth

Hy guys,

Ketch,

I just found this thread and I'm sorry you had to live through that. I've been robbed at gunpoint myself and I live in one of the most dangerous places... Mexico City. It's not uncommon to hear about robberies, kidnappings, express kidnappings, fraud, etc... from close friends here. It has, however, taught me a few good lessons in personal safety that I would like to share with everyone... First, when conducting a business transaction that involves a considerable sum of money, always meet at the bank (not at your branch, but definitely your bank). There's armed personnel there to keep you safe and you can deposit the money into your account right there. Keep your eyes open on the way home, and if you see something weird going on, return to the bank immediately. The best way to determine if someone is following you is driving very slow. That'll make anyone following you stick out from the crowd that'll be overtaking you. Avoid routes that involve many stoplights and if you must drive through one, try to approach it slowly as you reach the intersection so as to never find yourself trapped. Ideally, the light should go green by the time you reach it. Never share personal information with strangers (family stories, names, details about what you do, where you live, etc...). Never carry too much cash with you, but never go around empty handed, because a robber who gets nothing for all his troubles might get upset.Suppose you need to go somewhere with 1000 dollars or more, try to stash 876 (random number) somewhere safe and carry the remaining 124 dollars in your wallet. Try to stash your id's and credit cards somewhere safe and only carry the absolute minimum with you at all times. Shred all your bank statements, old bills, transaction receipts, etc... so as not to leave a paper trail in the garbage bin that someone can sift through. I specifically instruct all financial institutions I deal with not to send me any statements or bills, I check them on the internet. Always have a clean computer to do your internet transactions/bank movements. Don't let anyone into your house that you don't absolutely need to (plumber, gardener, etc...) If you have a gun and don't plan on using it, hide it. Most gunshot victims are shot with their own guns. (It's illegal in my country to own firearms with very limited exceptions.)

Now for the hard stuff, try to always be positive about everyone. Yes, there are some bad apples out there, but it's not worth losing your faith in mankind over the few bad ones. We're basically animals, so approach strangers with the same caution you would a dog, cat, bear, horse, etc... Be prepared to lose anything you own. We don't really own anything in life. Be cautious, but enjoy life. :)

I hope anyone can find this helpful.

Hey cholo,

thanks for the support, and yes Mexico DF it can surely be a creasy place, I spent about 6 months there, driving every day back and fourth to Satellite, then they say that in Italy we drive like creasy? I don't even have a category for how people drive in Mexico city, but did love it there, in general, great people, great food and incredible sites.

I hope as well that this post had at list saved a few (less stupid the I ) when doing any transactions and such.

Thanks for sharing.

Ciao,

KETCH ROSSI

So sorry for what happen to you man, I had some one before come in to my house to bay my camera, I made sure that couple of my friend in the other room waiting and making sure that every thing goes fine in addition to that my gun saw loaded and ready for any wrong things that could happen from the buyer, and very important when the buyer gave me his name I checked him out and made sure that he is clean with no bad records.
Make sure you get all his info before you met him, it's a jungle out there and you have to be careful, and ready for any thing.
And there is not thing wrong having hidden cameras round your house, specilly you have expensive equipment, and the insurance will be a lot cheaper.
Be careful out there.

I am truly sorry to hear this happened. The immediate decision to leave the bullet in made in the emergency room may have been the right decision for the moment. Please continue to seek medical help though. Bullets move and the risk of infection can be very high. Especially with a compromised immune system. It's nothing to mess with. The material losses can be an opportunity to try other pieces of kit that you would have never tried otherwise. You have now survived that getting shot thing out of the way. You were in some ways very lucky. You are a great soul and we hope you are around with us for a lot longer.

Why do these threads get necroed every so often? Strange...
