Hi folks,

I'm looking to get a circular polariser for my Komodo rig, to fit a 4x5.65" ARRI R2 standard filter slot (6mm).

I've looked at the Tiffen Multi Rota and a NiSi rotating CPL. The NiSi is half the price, but reportedly has issues letting light in through the top, which my matte box will likely suffer from. I liked the sound of the Tiffen, can be used as a variable ND in one slot, though considerably more expensive.

I haven't got a budget as such, but I'm feeling something up to $1kUS is where I'd like to draw the line. Are there any other CPL filters that folks here could suggest I take a look at? Happy to be educated.

Capturing through a Tokina Cinema Vista prime lens.

Cheers,

WP.

Which matte box are you using? If you have a Tilta (at least the older ones like the MBT12), then yes, the Nisi will let in a little light at top or bottom. The Tiffen definitely works with a Tilta MBT12.

Alan Gordon is another standard that you'll commonly find at rental houses here in New York. (I've personally only used it with a rented Arri mattebox. Despite the warning on B&H's site saying that it doesn't work with Tilta, I actually think it would work, but haven't tried it in the field to confirm.) You could also look at Scheider's offering, I haven't personally tried it.
