Counterfeit RED Lens PL Mounts.

If it's counterfeit then it most likely will be labeled as having been made by RED.

More or less, the simple fact that it's being sold in China means it's going to be counterfeit as RED only offers the product directly and has no authorized source in China so far as I know.

Can anyone give me a counterfeit link of this product? I'm in China and I want to check if they really put a RED label on their product, if they really did this, I'll strongly condemn them and probably go to the police to stop their manufacturing. But before that, I wouldn't believe anyone until I see any test or report about this mount and its flange issue. The thing is, the guy who made this mount may wanna become one of the third party accessories manufacturers but they made their mount in the same shape of Official RED. It's offensive anyway. But if they put a RED AUTHORIZED label on their mount, it's definitely their fault. I agree with Jarred on the warranty, but I think to the mount itself, The "Allstar" is being very irresponsible and your pretty words is just like an advertisement.

Today most PL mounts are dumb. The Red PL mount is considered not to be since it reads the lens data from certain lenses. It is, me guessing, also able to run a lens with internal motors in a not so distant future.

You can find a cheap dumb pl mount that works with epic and scarlet here: http://cinemods.com/

Can you/anyone elaborate on these specific 'dumb' pl mounts? I've been asked to buy a PL mount for an upcoming gig and this website was recommended. I don't feel too comfortable getting it.

Hey Jarred,

Is there a list of currently "RED APPROVED" Third Party mounts available somewhere? It would be really helpful to know what is and is not currently approved and available from third party vendors.

They put a red label on the port cap and directly compared it to the red pl lens mount as in "see if you can tell the difference". No one knows if there's a flange issue or not but it was a blatant copy. I'm sure if you want one, they'll be on ebay shortly.
No need to bash Allstar, he makes good and innovative products and is certified by red.

Josef i have dealt with Steven in the past and he is genuine and i recommend dealing with him.
I purchased a lens and spent a fortune getting it converted to PL and discovered that the lens had a big problem with it and Steven swapped it over without question.
Not many people would do that.

Johnny,

For what it is worth, I consider the cartels to be terrorist organizations.
Certainly you are somewhat aware of the fear and terror they have brought to the civilian population in Mexico with the recent killings?
I don't imagine those families finding anything funny about it.
A life is a life no matter where they are born.

Terrorism is a world-wide problem - never suggested that it was American centric only. Plenty of evidence out there besides that doled out in the media and by politicians.

As you pointed out, your response was off-topic to the intent of my post. We can agree to disagree on that particular sentence, but can we find common ground in that counterfeit RED gear is not good for any of us?

That's one hell of a sweeping statement that sounds like it's been copied out of a 'DON'T DO DRUGS KIDS' handbook. Or a 'Don't Purchase Fake Mounts or Ur Funding Terrorisms' handbook.

Ree-dic-u-los.

+1 for Allstar. I just bought a shoulder mount and it's a hell of a product. The price is also very reasonable. I didnt think it would be this good. Will order more from him shortly.
I'd like to try the Amount but I'm not sure if it affects the back focus and it seems to me that the lenses are a bit further away from the camera than they would be using Red's mounts.

Thank you for your support! The back focus distance is standard 52mm when you assemble A-mount and PL adapter. And you don't need to adjust back focus when swapping between different lenses through the adapters. Please refer to this video
