  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Corrupted Frames - Big trouble!

Hi Ryan, I had the same issue with 3.2.21. I told Red engineers and they don't know what to do. They want to see my camera.

Clever,
Unscrew the side ssd, use compressed air and blow off the receptors and receivers, then put it back on properly. See if that works for you. It worked for Marc. It literally could be something as simple as that.

Marc doesn't know if it worked for him or not... The problem occurs randomly. I've gone several weeks without it happening, then have it appear again, then come back after an X amount of time.

We won't know if the solution works after just a single day.

I'm not saying you will know after a single day. Why not try it out rather than sit around waiting? Test all you want and find out if re-seating and blowing off the side ssd helps or not, over a period of time. You won't know until you try. Personally I'd try everything to make sure it wasn't something simple.

And lo and behold, I got the problem, YET AGAIN.

I'm on the absolute newest beta firmware.

Took out the SSD module and did a thorough blowing/cleaning out.

Shot a few test clips, no issue.

Waited a few hours, shot another clip... the entire clip is bugged.

I'm about to pull out my hair at this point.

I was advised to upgrade to 3.2.21 and did so. Filmed almost a whole card so far without the issue. So far so good but time and more testing will tell.

Hi Shervin, This is very disappointing. Red answers also. This is definitely not a firmware problem and they keep repeating it. We were using the most different possible firmware versions and we are still getting the corrupted frames. I'll send my camera to REd and I hope they give me an answer. Otherwise I don't know what I'll do. I'm very afraid of them saying that's just a firmware problem again.

The issue that is persisting is an SSD issue I'm most likely having.

These corrupted frames are only happening on one of my SSD's. The other one has yet to encounter the problem at all.

I'm getting paranoid now... how clear are these frame corruptions? Is it just a dropped frame (can be tough to spot in a long piece) or is the frame visibly corrupted?

Don't. They are very very visible and maybe 10 people are having them.
One guy just realized it's a bad ssd.
I'm sure Red is looking into it, despite all the rants.

We got the same problem. v3.2.21 and corrupted frames on big project. We are doing tests on different cards right now. I really hope RED will fix this soon. Corrupted frames = useless camera. :-/

So we have another case of corrupted frames on 3.2.21. Red is definitely joking with us saying that this is a firmware problem. We have more than 20 cases of corrupt frames. I hope all reduser community could help us. We are loosing our shots, money and credibility with our clients and we don't have any trustful answer from Red. They should say: We don't know what's happening, don't go shooting, send your camera and we'll fix it or give you another one.

Sorry, but saying that's a firmware problem without knowing if this is true is VERY unexpected from a professional market company like Red. We are professional users and we can loose a lot of money if we go shooting with 3.2.21 expecting that the problem is solved when it's not. I'm not trying to fight against Red, I just want my camera working. If I think that Red is not a professional company, I wouldn't have bought my Scarlet.

I really don't know what's happening but I'm becoming scared about Red's treatment of this case.

Clever, I am a little confused. I am reading the emails between you and RED - and I see a different story than what is being posted here. I will re-send the email conversation to you so hopefully we are all on the same page.

What's the different story? I got a lot of corrupt frames and I'm sending my camera to you. But I'm afraid of being told that this is a firmware problem as you told Tim.

Today I was shooting with 3.2.21 and got a lot of corrupt frames. I sent the log file and one picture again to my rep.

What's the different story?

I described that in my email to you that included the exchange between you and RED support to date. If you would like to discuss further, please reply all to that email so we can help you as best as possible.

Friend, sorry but I didn't receive any email from you. I'm talking with Nick Watkins (my rep), Nick Grow, Krys Prygrocki and Haley Peralta. The only question that I have is: why is Red saying it's a firmware problem when this is happening with many of us in different firmware versions? If you read the forum, you'll see that many guys got this answer. Could you explain to me?

I'll send my camera back this week. The corrupt frames are appearing all the time. I'm really upset because of that. I just want to have my camera working well. I'm just afraid of Red saying that there's nothing wrong with it. I can't shoot any single sequence without any corrupt frame.

Clever, see if RED will let you send in your SSD's to test as well in case it's bad ssd's and not the camera.

I really think it's camera, because I used this SSd's with an Epic and had no problem at all.

I also used some rent ssd's on my scarlet and got corrupt frames too.

I've got an RMA going through with RED. Nick & RED engineers asked me for my Scarlet body and the affected REDMAG that I have after reviewing the R3D and the camera log I sent in.

Painless and quick process with them, definitely professional. They're providing me with a loaner camera whilst my cam and ssd is being tested.

Just curious if anyone can post a frame sample of what is happening to them.

Here it is:
