  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Cool Lights LED... AMAZING

Great thread so far...

Quick question to current LED600 owners, what do you find more useful- spot or flood versions? Obviously, output is higher with the spot version but is it to "sourcey" or can it still be used to light an interview without any diffusion?

Also, how much diffusion can the flood version take before it's output is simply to weak to use? 216? 250? Opal? (used for a key light in a scene)

Any input would be great, thanks!

Alex

You might also try asking that question over at DVXUser, there's several there with the spot version and I know at least one of them has been using his with a softbox he adapted to his units.

Last night I had the chance to quickly compare the LED600 (Flood version) against a LitePanel 5600k flood 1x1 and am happy to report that at a 4' distance with a Sekonic L758C the LED600 metered a whole 2 stops higher than the LitePanel!

LED600 Flood = $425

Litepanel 1x1 Flood = $1,700

Impressive.

They are two very different lights in my opinion. Your kit should have at least one Spot.

Hope this helps

Hi Alex,

If you get a chance I'd love to have the actual figures for the Litepanels 1x1 flood from your meter. I understand that its 1400 lux at 4 feet from their site. Would love to have a 2 foot and 6 foot measurement as well for a comparison chart I have. If you have time and its not a big deal. I'd also love to see a color chart shot with it as well which I am sure many would agree would be very interesting indeed.

Thanks Jarred, will do (if we can get them done this summer).

What would people think if we did a split version with half (600) 3200K and half (600) 8000K LEDs? With 2 dimmers 1 for 3200K group and 1 for the 8000K group. The CRI on a panel like this should be super plus allowing you to manually dial in the color temp you want.

Of course we'd still do an all daylight version as well too which many will only be interested in.

In addition, how interesting would the 2400 LED model that Miltos mentioned a few posts back be to people?

the 2400 is for me!!

Hi Richard,
Just sent you a PM. The contact email on your site doesn't seem to work.
Cheers!

I don't know about the color mixing... i can do that with Gels and I am concerned that giving 1/2 my lights to another temp would cost me more than I want to pay in brightness.

I think your still going to get all the intensity from the light just a better color rendition. or am I wrong in assuming that both banks can be used in unison?

Seems like a good Idea as long as its easy adjust the color accurately.

Most of us RedUsers would prefer daylight balanced...especially if it means a higher lumen output than a switchable fixture.

Hehe, I see you jumped in...

yep.... head 1st.....

Glad to see your here often.... You make great gear and your customer support is the best I've seen! I was at a toyota plant today and the Deming method they work by reminded me of how you listen to everything your customers say.... and in turn, your products become exactly what they want.

I feel RED is the same way..... so it's a good thing your here as well!
