  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Contax Zeiss Survival Guide

+ 1. I have both, and they are both worth it. Different character.

Are the happypagehk adapters worth it at all? Or should I not bother and just go with leitax? I just am kinda wary of changing mounts on lenses (I know its easy but still), and fitting all my lenses with leitax and such would be quite pricy, although probably the best option overall. I just don't want adapter slippage, which I get a ton of with the cheap fotodiox adapters

I've personally never used the Happypagehk adapters; though I know they are popular in the stills forums. Aren't they pretty close in price to the Leitax though?

The Leitax adapters are SO good, I highly recommend. They come as close to PL "solid" as you can get. VERY, VERY impressive. Rock solid. All metal.

The beauty of the Leitax is most techs will give you a discount on DECLICKING and DAMPENING your iris as they have to unmount the back of your lens anyway and attach the adapter. So keep that in mind.

Ah that is true! I am such a noob when it comes to anything mechanical, I once tried to convert my canon fd 35-105mm to EOS mount using an EDMika kit on ebay and ended up stipping the screws (and yes I applied pressure when trying to unscrew them) so i'm a little nervous from that past experience. I would prefer to send them to duclos but then thats an added cost. But thats a good point about the dampening! Btw just got my 28mm f2 in the mail and I LOVE it. Absolutely beautiful. I'm gonna have a fun time with this lens ;)

Also consider Peter at RP lens. He's great.

Guys I'm heading to New York in September and thought I'd try and do some bargain hunting while I was there. Is there anywhere recommended in NYC for older lenses?

Adorama and B&H are your best bets. Adorama in particular can surprise you with their deals.

I have bought a few lenses from Adorama but online not in the store. I did noticed that occasionally they do drop their prices on their contax lenses if they have not sold for a while. So if I were you I would definitely consider negotiating with them when you are in the store (for used lenses).

Yes they are pretty open to negotiation in the store, which is not possible when online.

Too bad I live in Miami. ;) It is tough buying from Adorama, B&H etc online. I think they deal with so much used equipment that it is pointless for them to photograph every product to show true condition (serial numbers, etc). It would be nice however.

Thanks guys. Will give it a go. The good thing for me is that we tend to pay the same number but in £ instead of $ over here, so we're getting massively screwed, paying at least 50-60% more per item than you guys, so even if the negotiating fails I'll still have a bargain :)

I may also buy a new laptop while there :)

I think their is more Contax choices in Europe.
I bought my whole set from Ebay Europe (except for the 100/300) in three month time.
On 11 lenses, 9 of them were under 200€ and all in pristine condition (and the majority are made in west Germany) :-).
The only two pricey ones (around 500) were the 100 F2 and 100/300.

Ah and while I'm here some more 60 love.

A silk worm on shock just after it's last skin change (4th).

Some stills from the shoot I did on Thursday. That white BMW 507 is worth £800,000 and it was getting some brutal treatment

3Khd 48fps from the back of a fast bumpy truck.. 28-85mm Zeiss

4khd 25fps - I'm guessing either 28-85 or 25mm f2.5

And this is a quick one using the Dog Schidt lens, just because there's a vague interest in it here.

Yeah Crazy expensive. Whoever gets that has balls.

It is A LITTLE BIT like two lenses in one, with the Mutar. But still, that feels excessive, lol.

Ben, who were you shooting for? I may have some classic car work for a company I work for and may want to collaberate!
