  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Contax Zeiss Survival Guide

As Nick says, get the 1510. I currently use 6 of them...2 for Scarlet & accessories, 1 for 8 Contax primes (from 18mm to 100mm), 1 for my larger Contax (135, 180, 28-85, 80-200), and 2 for my sound gear.

Tom it was primarily your advice that got me hooked on the 1510! I have them arranged similarly.

Over on Fredmiranda, I thought this guys description of how to read Zeiss MTF scores pretty illuminatong:

One shorthand way to read CZ MTFs is to look at the numbers for each line pair
- 10lpmm is overall contrast and 'brightness',
- 20lpmm (measures the object shaping for most image content and considered by many lens aficionados such as Mike Johnston to be most important) and
- 40lpmm (small detail rendition due to quite literally micro-contrast - contrast at micro levels to enable resolving tiny objects, or detailed parts of larger objects).

So the 35-70 at 70mm and f8 would be described as a '71-85-92' lens, and the 35-135 at the same settings would be a '72-88-95' lens. By comparison the respected 80-200/4 at 80mm and f8 (and pretty much everywhere else at f8) is a '61-80-90' lens.

At 35mm and f8, the 35-70/3.4 is a '64-83-91' lens and the 35-135 a '69-88-96' lens.

We did another Project Runway All Stars shoot today, a small branded piece for Mary Kay, and rocked the 21 and 60 (a fantastis shooting combo). The 60 Macro BLEW US AWAY. So sharp, such amazing bokeh, so great to work with for fashion. When I get approval from client I'll share some stills.

REGARDING CASES:

I can't recommend enough the setups from TrekPak.com. You can get the case and the customizable dividers from them, or just the dividers to replace your pluck foam. I got the 1500 because it's perfect to carry around with my lenses / batteries / media if I am running around.

Mine missing my 135, half full:

Here is one of my TrekPak 1510's...

So the lenses are perfectly safe in there? As safe as regular foam? Seems like you could fit MORe lenses in than with pluck foam, and in a more customizable way. Just want to get a read on how secure the glass is.

Totally. The pieces are pretty rigid plastic lined with foam. I feel really good about it.

They do apparently make an "industrial" version of the dividers that is even stronger, but I don't think it's in stock. I really really like this system.

I now use all those random pieces of pluck foam that keep appearing in various places to elevate short lenses or lenses I want to lie sideways so they don't bounce around.

Two weeks ago I received the Housing for
25 2.8, 28 2.8, 50 1.4, 85 1.4 200 3.5 135 2.8 and
My impression on cinematics for Contax pchood

The Good:
Quality manufacturing and printing
Good price

The bad:
You have no guide marks for focus and iris.
Should be modified in order to use them with A-mount because the focus gear is very wide, except 25mm and 135mm.
Iris markings are in F stops
Not all models are available for Contax, hope it goes the 21 2.8 and the 35 1.4.

Oh man that's incredible. Now I have to add yet another lens to the wanted list!

The Contax 100-300 is a SUPERB lens...arguably the best Contax telephoto ever (if you discount the insanely rare 200 f2 and 300 2.8)

Awesome. I ordered two sets for my 1510s

Having a push and pull design for filming a very fast hunter like the Hornet is more than welcome.
I was actually able to reframe in a snap while the fast subject change direction.
Sharpness isn't bad for a 2K WS Format thought.

Few more sample for the love of Contax Bokeh.

100/300 MM and 60 AE

Cheers.
B.
