hi
any chance to find a 12 or 14mm contax zeiss ? I want to use it on a gh4 too but crop factor is X2 so 12 mm become a 24mm thanks for your answer

Nick laid out all the Contax Zeiss lenses that exist in the very first post. There's a 15 f/3.5, 16 f/2.8 fisheye, and an 18 f/4.

But since you're using a small sensor, why not get a Speedbooster XL and boost the 21mm f/2.8 to an effective 13mm f/1.8?

What Aaron said.

15mm is widest, but it's quite expensive, pretty slow, and has no threads. To get that wide, may as well get a Tokina 11-16 and throw some Promist on it.

We did that here with this spot:

Mostly shot on Contax 25mm, with 11-16 and Promist. Night candle shot on Contax 35 1.4 WO.

I ended up using the 1.3x vs the 2x because with my comparisons I found the 1.3x to be a bit clearer, easier to use with the same flaring. The 1.3x had a more 'solid' look where the 2x breaks down for me in an unnatural way. I preferred test footage online by the 1.3 over the 2.0 in general. I do use a KOWA 2x projector lens which is fantastic and a Hypergonar 2x beast which is very different and filmic. The SLR m 1.3x was just small, lightweight and perfectly matches the slr m rangefinder for focus pulls and close focus. Overall I will be using the slr m 1.3x much more if possible, its a fantastic tool for the $.

This looks amazing. I love the projector motiff.

How was your experience with the SLR magic 1.3x? What made you pick that vs the 2x?

The streaks it gives are really gorgeous, and not too intrusive. I sometimes feel anamorphic calls too much attention to itself, but felt it really worked here. Maybe it's the more subtle 1.3. Love to hear more about your experiences with it.

Again, awesome work.

This thread is so rad. I'm looking to add a longer C/Y Zeiss lens to my collection, maybe you guys can help me out.

Here are my options as of right now:

100mm f2.8 Makro
135mm f2.8
80-200mm f4

The longest lens I have in my set of AEG is the 35-70 so I want something that I can use for both photography and cinematography (preferably some tight sexy extreme CU shots). I love the look of the 100mm 2.8 but I'd prefer to keep this purchase under $500. Thoughts?

Hi everyone!

Another video I filmed just got released, shot on Contax AE primes. 18/25/35/50/85.

Augnablik

Canon C300II in 4K mode Canon Log 2, cropped to 4:3 ratio :) A little bit of post film grain added.

Really loved the soft tonal qualities of the lenses in the lenses. Fall more in love with them every time they come out!

Please critique!

80-200 f4. No brainer. We use it all the time. Its a constant stop, push pulls great, costs $300-400 (for GOOD ones), looks balls out AMAZING, and has mind blowing close focus at 200mm (3 feet).

All the tights here are modded 80-200's (done at RP Lens)...we had two, one on B-cam, another on C-cam.

Amazing on skin too.

The 135f2.8 is super for the money.

I love my 180mm f2.8, especially for it's close focusing abilities, and I bought mine under your limit.

But then, I don't like push-pull zooms too much, I only have the so very versatile 28-85mm.

Hi,

I picked up a sigma 18-35 to use as a wide for my contax set.
In davinci i am able to get them pretty close but i was wondering if anybody here die some tests what filter gives it the closest match.
I tried 1/8 black promist and that helps allot but was just wondering if there is a better choice.

Well it looks like I just killed my workhorse 28-85.

Got a job where I know I'll have to be shooting on a Metabones tomorrow so removed the leitax mount took a dremel to the aperture tab that pokes out and the top assembly has come out and whenever I put it back in the iris ring isn't engaging. The remaining part of the aperture tab opens and closes it fine but the actual ring hasn't engaged with whatever it was supposed to. And I don't think my poking and prodding around inside has helped one bit :(

That sucks. Such a good lens!!

BPM 1/8 has does a pretty good job, probably the best. Or regular Promist if you have AEs.

I know I preach a lot about the 35-70 and the 80-200: well you can see them all in action here!

https://vimeo.com/199221814

Three camera shoot. A-Cam is on 35-70, and B and C Cam's are on matching 80-200's (we have three in our arsenal, and two 35-70's).

All shot on Epic Dragons at 5KHD, with motion mounts.

For quick doc work, these are work great. And the bokeh on the 80-200 is lovely, don't ya think?
