Wanted to check into the possibility of either of these existing or getting info on how one could possibly go about getting one? I know everyone's waiting on Birger mount, I think there's a pretty decent market for a Canon mount that simply allows the use of other lenses that can adapt to the Canon system. I.E Yashica, M42 etc etc.

Thanks.

I'm developing just that at the moment (for Leica, cannon, nikon, ect.- interchangeable for most formats - coming soon:)

I own most of the Contax Zeiss N Series Lesnes. I have projected them at Schneider. All of them, especially the 17-35, are stunning. I am using Canon Mounts on the back which were converted by Conurus. They are all automatic/manual as per your setting. These lenses are as good as it gets for a fraction of the price.

A man after my own heart. Do you have the 21mm f2.8 ? Some think it's the best wide ever made by anybody.

That 21 is too expensive!!! But boy is it ridiculously sharp.

Chuck you got PM.

This is interesting! Give P+S Technik some competition.

Are you using them on your RED? Which mount do you have? Must get a pair of REDs setup with cold EOS mounts asap to start using the glass for smaller projects.

Well then do you have the 200mm f2? lol That lens with the Mutar 1.4x and the 2x would give you a 200 f2, a 280 f2.8 and a 400 f4 and fit all in one case.
The best!

Not blather on about these Zeiss Contax lenses (but I will) some of the slower versions are really fantastic optics and focus cinewise too. Here's a review of the 85 f2.8. If that's too slow for you they made it in f1.2 also. Hard to find and BIG bucks.

I've got an 85/1.4. The 1.2 Anniversary is a rare find and as expensive as a heart transplant.

I also love love love the 135/2.8. Wish I could grab a 2, sometime soon. :D

Somebody here shot a shuttle launch with the 300 f4 and was impressed with it. They also made a f1.2 in 55mm.

Have you tried any of the zooms? I have what's considered the worst one, 28-70/3.4~4.5 and if THIS is the worst zoom I'd dread to see what the good ones are like.

Planning on snagging up a 35-70, 28-85 and 35-135 soon.

<3 Contax. Now if there was only a way to use them on RED's. =\

You can use a Contax to Canon adapter or but that IMS mount system.

Indeed, If you could offer this mount right now I would be a nice solution till Briger is out. BUT what does mean „coming soon“ for you?

And the cost of the P+S system is probably wicked.
It was quoted as 680 EUR, which is way below wicked on my scale. Also, P+S has the tendency to deliver on their promises...

Dear friends, partners and clients of P+S Technik

We are happy to inform you about the latest news regarding our
Interchangeable Mount System (IMS) for RED One.
To implement the IMS on the RED One is much easier than expected in the
beginning. The replacement of the whole RED front is not needed anymore.
Due the fact that only the original RED mount needs to be replaced by the
P+S Technik IMS, no warranty limitations will be damaged. If needed the IMS
can also be re-exchanged to the original RED One mount. The thermically
characteristics of the RED One front will stay the same after this IMS
modification.
The simplicity of this exchange makes the shipping the RED One to P+S
Technik unnecessary. It can be done by everybody with a technical basic
understanding.

Consequently we could lower the mentioned price in the beginning of 1.500,00
to 680,00 Euros only. The article number is 24209

Shims to collimate the IMS will be included in delivery as well as an
instruction.

...

If you want to receive your already reserved IMS for RED please send us an
order for the article number 24209. The expected delivery time will be 2
weeks.

Yeah that's not too much for a universal mounting system. Still a bit more than a Birger and a few Contax Adapters.

But you don't loose the option of having PL mount lenses - which makes it much easier to rent out.

It is pretty easy to change from the birger mount back to pl - just 4 screws - and since both mounts have internal adjustment rather than shims - they should maintain collimation.

IMS with the cheapest mount is about $1400

With birger you get the EF mount obviously (by the way what good is the dumb ef mount on the IMS? - there is no way to set aperture) and adapters for Nikon, Contax, Leica, M42, etc. are $20 instead of $367.

18381 Nikon Mount EUR 236,00 = $367 today
18382 Canon EF Mount EUR 236,00
18383 Zeiss Contax Mount EUR 236,00
18380 Leica R Mount EUR 256,00

I also question whether over the long haul the PL mount really makes it easier to rent out. As the market becomes filled with REDs there are going to be way more REDs than there are shoots that need/can afford PL lenses. Ultimately the rental market is going to be larger with people moving up from prosumer cameras - with very limited budgets - so being able to use low cost Canon EF lenses will make it feasible. It all depends on yor specific situation - but doesn't it seem like that is going to be the trend and more likely for the 3 or 4 thousand individual red owners than the 500 or so that might be at rental houses.?
