  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Contagion- Soderbergh...

The new 3D RED 'Tattoo' camera has hit a few hitches so will not be used on the production after all as previously reported. Instead Soderbergh will revert back to the regular RED cameras he used on "Che" and "The Informant". Out of the link above....

3D RED Tattoo.... nice....

Real Bummer... I Wonder why and what delays can we infer from this info for us, mere mortals???

Weeding out problems is the purpose of the Tattoo program so... I guess this ultimately is a good thing.

Hope we get some more info about this soon. If its a biggie or not.

Worth noting that it is a 3D set-up which can't help but contribute to the potential for things to go awry.

My two cents is that Soderbergh doesn't back away from a challenge so I am guessing either this story is incorrect or if they did chose to use Red Ones it's not because of some major problem but just as a safety precaution with all the big name talent. Even if that is the case I am sure that Epic will still be extensively used (and abused) just maybe not as A-cam. Ha we probably shouldn't speculate just wait for word from Red tho. (yes I know the hypocrisy in that statement):blush5:

Definitely, using them as safeties... he shot Che on R1's that had the bare minimum firmware (tho better than just "RECORD" that PJ had on Crossing the Line)

I doubt a little hiccup will be a major factor

I don't mind the silence from Red ... usually means they're working hard. But in this case I'd really love just a quick word from someone "in the know" Just to hear "we're still on track; this article isn't telling the whole story" would put my mind greatly to ease.

Surely the problem can't be with the untested camera. How could that ever be the case?

Come on man, it's possible there was a major enough problem that kept them from using it, it's a beta test unit for goodness sake. I don't get your logic here.

Might be because of this.

I say we wait for official RED word on this before jumping to any conclusions.

Is it possible whoever wrote the article didn't really know what they were talking about? They mention problems with a "Tattoo" 3D rig, and going back to regular red cameras, but never mention Epic...so maybe there's a little confusion there, and the problems were with a 3D rig and not the camera itself....if there was a problem I guess it would make more since for the beta test cam to be the issue though.

As others have said, I think if there was a problem it has something to do with the reference to a 3D rig. My issue now is with your line of reasoning that seems to state that because they used the prototype Red One on Che & didn't have to abandon it due to technical problems we're to assume that the prototype Epic must surely work well enough to use on this project. Again, I fail to follow your logic.

The link I provided was a clue as to why some might think he'd push forward despite not everything being perfect with the camera. I made no comment about the state of the camera one way or another. In fact, you may want to re-read the very last thing I said.

Your statement is extremely presumptuous. And if I recall correctly every time the Red Camera or program as a whole has had a "massive failure" or technological setback Jim has come on here and been forthcoming and honest. I have no reason to doubt that at this time.

And for those that make a living with a Red camera, I see no reason why they still can't. MX is amazing from what I've seen and heard.

Lets be honest Epic is so far ahead of the curve in every area, if it didn't come out for another two years it would still be awesome.

Hey what happened to the post It was responding to.

Now I sound like a dusch.
