Congrats Jim on being an ASC Associate! Next is Jarred, and I'm sure others on the Red team.

Hard-won recognition. But anything worthwhile usually doesn't come easy.

What do you have to do to get on this list?

Congrats! Nice to see Craig Barron on that list. A former mentor.

What are peoples thoughts on joining ASC, CSC, BSC, I think I qualify but have never been motivated to join that or a Director's Guild. What benefit does it offer?

As a DGA member, I would say that if you have work as an AD or UPM, you would want to join. as a Director, perhaps (mostly to be taken more seriously, or to be eligible for assignments on some projects).. You join by proving appropriate experience, passing thru an AD training program, or just by being on a project that becomes signatory in a covered job. They maintain eligibility rosters, set minimum rates, and offer screening oportunities to director members. If you are primarily a camera dept professional, it is not that useful to you on most jobs.

The ASC BSC and CSC (I am not a member of any of these, though I have some aquaintances who are) is not that simple. As there are members on this site, I trust they will speak up. My outsider perception, though, is that when being considered for membership, it is not only the amount of work you have done, but the scope and quality of that work.

It may be more useful to you to join the Camera local 600, if you are looking to belong to a union.. (I am also a member of that union as a camera operator)

Excellent news!!!

Also I read about that news yesterday in January 2013 Issue of American Cinematographer!!!!

Congrats Jim, very well deserved and such a great move!!!

Congratulations Jim!!!

Long overdue! Congrats Jim. You and Jarred have shook things up, made things interesting and that is always a good thing for these other people getting so comfortable in the same old, same old. Well deserved. Jarred is a fantastic shooter, certainly this should be a no-brainer.

That's a pretty huge deal. It's well deserved for sure. Especially considering the history, criticism, and accomplishments. Big congratulations.
