  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

comparison with a DLSR please?

Hi Phil again,
yeah, leaving Red with an unsharpened softer look for 1080p
and 2K digital projection would be fine if that's the look you require.
Unfortunatly 80-90% of theatricial is film for worldwide release and will
probably be that way for some time. And I agree, giving digital a film DI
does add grain and more of that film feel. Most digital cameras other than Red
do have in camera sharpening/processing built in so they appear sharper to begin with.
Red can deliver a good sharp image for film-out with a lot of care and understanding
in the lens and focus areas.
We just have to be little cautious when more than the natural Red OLPF softness can be
seen in a fair amount of the material posted in this part of the forum.

Hi Mezmo,
I'm no expert in this field, so if the Red One needs to improve its sharpening ability's then I'm all for it, but as Haakon himself said, these test are far from scientific. I don't want you to think I'm some Luddite that thinks Red is perfect, don't touch it! In fact I think we are both urging caution but just coming at it from different directions.

See you in the middle.
