Hi everyone,

I can't seem to get the exact answer from doing a search here, so I thought I would throw this out and see if anyone has a workaround.

We are trying to batch out a bunch of shots through color. Let me describe our current workflow:

1. Open the shot list in clipfinder
2. Drag the shots we want from clipfinder into final cut
(the reason we are going through final cut is due to the fact that we may have 2 - 3 subtakes during a take. I need a way to chop it up so I can create ins and outs.
3. We lay the shots out on the time line in final cut
4. We send to color

Everything for the most part seems to look okay, however on a closer inspection, some of the shots do not come in. They are black... And on some of the longer takes some seem to skip and go into a funky looping effect.

I am not sure yet what the ratio of shots that are failing are yet. I will have the info soon. I am curious if someone has seen this and has a workaround for it.

The shots that do work look amazing. We are exporting them out as 1080P HQ Prores shots.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Are you bringing proxies into Color, or the L&T native media?

I had this problem with proxies...but it cleared up after I conformed the timeline to L&T media.

Nate,

Thanks man- let me look into this right now. I am not sure.

Nate,

I am going to research this now. Can you be a bit more specific? I am simply dragging the list right off of clip finder into the browser of final cut. Then I lay them onto the timeline in final cut and then tell it to "send to color". I am doing this step because I need to chop them up because we have 2 or more takes or subclips right off the master clip. So I guess I am using the proxies. how do I conform the timeline to L&T (and what is L&T?)?

Thanks again for this info!

Nate,

Are you talking about the timeline of FCP or the timeline of Color?

Nate,

I am trying to catch up on some of your posts on DV Info..

Once I finally get the clips into color, I want to color them, then export the batch into a 1080P prores. I do not plan on sending them back to final cut. I just want a perfect, color corrected clip. Do you know of any issues once they have been exported out? I see you have mentioned on DV Info about dropped frames. Will this play a roll in what I am doing?

Nate,

I did some research. I am assuming you are referring to the log and transfer. I have brought the same shot in to color after going through the log and transfer route, and I have had no problems.

Thanks again for you help! This was a good tip!
