  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Codec Fault Evolving!!!

I experienced CODEC FAULT only when filming in the bright sun situation. I am shutting 4K, 16:9, build 15 and redcode 28.

Two years later... in 2010...

We are having a CODEC FAULT problems after recording about 10-30 minutes about every third shot. Settings are 4kHD, 30fps, Max on, Red Code 36, Build 21 v21.4.1. Shooting outside, so it is always sunny, not necessarily hot. All the bad shots have minimum of sky in them, so compression data rate is high. We are shooting on 640gb RED drives with wide angle lens 25mm Master Prime, everything sharp (which is a must).

I will try lowering to Red Code 28 and turn Max setting off. Any other ideas in what I can do? Deep format hard drives? I did have few dropped frames today.

You will get FASTER and BETTER service filing a support ticket with RED than digging up a 2 year old thread... give them a try, they are fantastic with support.

good luck

Yes... File support ticket request. Have camera log files ready and any other information you think may help.

Yes, listen to Tim and Jeff. I had a series of codec errors pop up just a couple of months ago on one of my Reds, and it was a problem with the camera, which required sending it in.
I think as a general rule we no longer see these errors unless you camera has a hardware fault.
Cheers,
Harry
