  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

cloudy Bomb EVF picture

I just got my Scarlet, and it looks GREAT with my bomb evf, but my Epic makes it look milky. Leads me to think its a camera thing vs. a EVF thing... will see...

Randall can you report this finding to the Red crew. Would be good to know they know this info as it might help them fix the problem.

The Scarlet is running the latest beta 2.08, and the Epic was running 2.05. I haven't updated the Epic-M to test it yet, because i am sending it back now. I can try and take a pic of the viewfinder, but not sure you will notice it in the pic. let me see...

What GAMMA setting are you running on the camera, and what happens if you increase CONTRAST on the camera (LOOK menu)

These are good ?'s. I hope we can get them answered because that will rule out some variables here. Already tho there is a difference in firmware for Randall....

I am running RedGamma 2. If I turn up the contrast it makes the blacks even deeper and richer. Looks better for me. The adjusment isnt smooth, meaning i coick it up and then it catches up to the setting. I still get mild color shifts turning up the brightness to a bit magenta, but no where near as bad as on my M. One click down from max looks pretty good. Again this is all in comparison to how it looked on my M. Let me know if you want me to send camera logs or anything.

Stuart,
I hope the "fix" for this will not be to crank up the contrast on the r3d's metadata, just so the EVF looks correct. That will surely lead to misinterpretation of the intended look down the pipeline.
Cheers,
Harry

Yep... dont do it, unless your are expelling the meta data in your post work flow.

Also on set the rest of your monitors will be then to contrasty.

The cloudy blacks are still there, Just received 2 more BOMB evf's, they are all the same as my original. :(

But at least they are sharp! I still love them regardless... but hopefully soon they will fix it in there un incoming firmware updates.

Hope this helps.
My experience with the Old EVF was that it was milky and desaturated as you say happens with the Bomb EVF, but after upgrading to the 2.x firmware there was a major improvement in the image of the Old EVF. So my guess is that's a firmware issue... at least with the Old EVFs.

I know you guys want an official explanation, but maybe this helps some of you to ease your minds a little bit.

Cheers!

I am delighted that consensus of opinion is the milkyness is a softare fixable thing... It would also be great if the green shift on adjusting brightness could be addressed?

M

It would be nice if both of these issues were acknowledged by Red.

agreed. I have the magenta/green issue too. Also EVF looks milky in general on my Scarlet...

Same. VERY noticeable green/magenta shift when adjusting EVF brightness, and raised black levels here... would definitely be nice if RED addressed this, as this is not what I would expect from a $3200 EVF.
