  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Cinematography Reel 2013

Nice job, you have a good eye. One thing I dislike is the white border around your video, it is very distracting.

What type of cinematography are you looking forward to doing in your career?

Thanks Justin.

I understand the white bars is somewhat of an anomaly, but I've seen a couple other reels implement them successfully, and they also fit a bit more seamlessly on vimeo and my website.

Right now, I am doing half commercial work, and half non-profit/charity/documentary style work. I have done a few narratives, though I am more drawn towards short-form videos.

Hello Jeremy,
Good Job bud Keep it up the good work.......

Jeremy, I think your reel is fantastic... I really liked the emphasis on individuals/people... very organic and emotional cinematography. I see the music was by Salomon Ligthelm. Are you guys friends or did you just contract him for the work? He is super talented.

loved the images, clearly an eye for for it. Also the white border kinda . . . not a fan of it because I believe the images were cinematic not . . . i dont know , wedding or tv, so the good old black would imho suit it more.
also might check on the compression, some beautiful wide shots had a bit too much compression artefacts which i assume doesnt come from the camera or does it? And not from vemeo either.

keep up the great work!

Hey Andy - Thank you. I do not know Salomon personally, but we have exchanged emails before. I did double check with him about using this track for the reel, and I also purchased a license from themusicbed.com

John - I would have to disagree with you. I do not think the white borders makes the images any less cinematic, I think the imagery should speak for itself. Like I said before, I merely wanted it to integret more seamlessly on my website. I kind of like the clean feel it gives the reel as well. And I totally hear you about the compression. It looks completely different on the export. That's always a bummer when exporting RED footage to h.264, and further downgrading it with the vimeo compression. Thanks for the input!

I liked the reel but that white border was too distracting for me. It just draws your eye away from the content. I typically like to tag all these vimeo videos on my watch later list and then watch from my smart tv. So I'm not watching from a website and that white border was just too much. I think you should reconsider the white border thing. I know you want it to match your website but I personally would be aiming to have my reel seen by someone on a television rather than a website. Maybe you can make two versions of the video.
