  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Chris Nolan and "Inception"

Not gonna lie, I probably watched that trailer 14 times yesterday. Then I watched Christopher Nolan's first movie "Following" last night. Great movie for a small budget. Check it out, it's on netflix.

Based on the most recent trailer, only two things look cgi, the crumbling city and the world bending on itself.

Crumbling City looked very miniature-y to me.

The reason he's shooting Vista Vision is almost certainly to use for old-school-style VFX.

Aronofsky shunned CGI for The Fountain, and it sounds like Nolan is trying to do the same with Inception, to the extent that it's possible. Malick is also said to be using "old" FX techniques on Tree of Life and another project.

I believe they are using miniatures. Some of the production photos show a semi-miniature wooden fortress so it is possible that the city was a miniature as well although it does look more cg than the collapsing snow tower (it is hard to tell with this low quality trailer).

For those interested:
A new Inception trailer is out that gives you a basic understanding of the idea of the film:

Don't you just love it and hate it when someone makes a film exactly the kind of film you would love to make for the rest of time. If the ideas can be pulled off to make an intense, perfectly crafted, tightly written piece of cinema, then I will once more have faith in the world.

Actually, cg is pretty minimal in the trailer and from what I hear, the film used many actual sets and locations and kept cg to a minimum. Look at the trailer for the last airbender, everything looks cg where in inception, it is more subtle and enhances real environments to make them pop.

Totally agree with you. Inception doesn't feel CGI driven, whereas The Last Airbender doesn't feel like anything was real. I much prefer Inception's "style".

Don't get me wrong, the last airbender effects look good but with inception, I feel like it could be real. Except for the bending city shot and the crumbling city shot, everything looks 100% real, especially the shifting bridge, snow scenes and especially the rotating hallway scene.

The reviews are rolling in, and its looking like we're all in for a treat. I purchased my midnight IMAX tickets and am ready to get lost inside Christopher Nolan's mind.

cant wait to hear your thoughts, drew.

Well my invoice is saying that its 149 minutes long. So hopefully just after that I'll try and post what I thought. But from what I'm hearing around the lot is that its crazy and you can't look away or you might miss something important.

what kind of theater screening are you get? regular 2k projection or are they offering a full imax experience for you?

I'm running it at a screening room at Warner Bros. So my experience with the film is going to be somewhat limited.

BTW, I heard that they didn't make any DCPs for this movie so its only going to be on film.
