  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Chris Nolan and "Inception"

BTW, I heard that they didn't make any DCPs for this movie so its only going to be on film.

Thats counter to what we're working with. Impact for DCM is meant to be just under 2mil. I'm expecting it pretty damn sharpish anyway.

Hope you enjoyed the film though man. Its the one I've been waiting for!!

Got done watching "Inception" about an hour ago and I really liked it. The story was really involved in a way that doesn't loose you but pulls you in...at least it did for me. The cinematography in it was amazing. You could tell that a lot of the wide city shots were shot in 65mm not to mention a bunch of other scenes that looked crazy sharp with way more detail than I have ever seen in a normal 35mm acquisition print. I think people will like this film.

Should be going in early tomorrow to Preview Inception in IMAX. Depends how early I get up mind. Its a good reason to get up I think.

Finished previewing it about half an hour ago...the real world is so dull.

Astounding film from beginning to end. I could write more but there would be no point. It was so perfectly done. Best film I have seen in YEARS. Knocks everything out of the water.

Only flaw in my mind was the seed of the reason for the actual inception. Would go into it as it might spoil but apart from that...WOW

So I have been keeping track of the film on Rotten Tomatoes and so far, the reviews have been mostly positive but no where near the universal claim that many were expecting. So far, common criticisms are an overly complex plot, lack of character development and the fact that Nolan's dream levels seem like set pieces from a Michael Bay film. Did he not go far enough in creating and alternate world in the mind? Some say he reaches too far, others say not enough. From the reviews I have read, those who liked it really liked it and those who did not, hated it. There was not much middle ground. I have a feeling this will be one of those love/hate films. I guess that is still better than an "ok" film that is neither bad nor good. Anyone else see it? I am seeing it in IMAX this Friday so hopefully it will be well worth the wait and the $18.50 I paid for the ticket. Could this be Nolan's masterpiece?

I have been hearing some mixed reactions too. It is 72 on Metacritic, which is "Generally favorable reviews".

A general rule - If a film has "universal acclaim", there's a good chance that it is simply "safe" and "formulaic". That explains why Toy Story 3 is 91. Of course it is a good movie, but no one can deny it is by-the-numbers designed to please the masses. A truly visionary work will always have its detractors. A truly visionary film will not give what the audience wants. It will be something the audience does not expect, perhaps they don't understand. Well, Inception might be a flawed film, but that is something we have to decide for ourselves. No point reading too much into reviews.

It totally sucks when you have to think during a movie.

I'm not saying the plot is overly complex but many critics are. I actually responded to two of the negative reviews. Rex Reed's was particularly noteworthy because he chose to spend his time talking about how much of a hack he thought Nolan was rather than really talking about the film.

I have a feeling I will like the film but there seems to be a war between die hard Nolan fans (which I am not) and critics like Rex who start their review off by saying that they have hated most if not all of his work. I am sure some of the reviewers are trying to go against the grain. Do they really hate the film or do they hate that the film was so hyped? I will admit that I thought the film was overly hyped. I would rather be really surprised than feel that the film was a let down. I have a feeling that if you thought this was going to be the best sci fi film since 2001 or blade runner, than you may be let down but if you go in with your summer blockbuster goggles on, you will be very pleased. It is like Avatar, don't try to read into the film too much and you will enjoy it. Nolan probably has not created the cinematic equivalent of War and Peace. Yes, you will need to use your head when watching the film but some of the critics seem to be over analyzing. In a nutshell, this is no Michael Bay trashtastic action film but it is also not 2001. What it will be is most likely the best summer blockbuster of recent memory. Critics need to remember that at its very core, it is a popcorn film for the thinking man.

Although I might be more inclined due to the fact that the style of the film is my cup of tea. I care little what the detractors say. He has not ripped the idea it is not over complex, but complex enough. The only real character development is Leo's character which was suffice given the grandeur of the piece and that was nicely handled. It is an intelligent piece, visually astounding but not in a stylistic way. I absolutely loved it.

I do find it funny that many of the critics panning the film do so over what they consider to be a very flawed plot but most of them liked Avatar and made no mention of it's serious serious plot short-comings, formulaic is an understatement. I still cannot believe how that film has such a high RT score yet Inception's continues to drop each day. And why are most of the detractors from NY? There must be something in the water over there that causes film-snobbery. I tend to agree with A.O Scott a lot but he seemed a little disappointed. We will see, I still remain hopeful that this is not Nolan's Heaven's Gate. Sometimes too much success can be a bad thing. Look at the situation M. Night is in. I really hope Nolan stays as consistent as he has been.

On a totally different note, the Red team may be looking at another Best Picture Nomination with Winter's Bone. Could a female director win two years in a row?

I didn't find it obviously formulaic in any way. I think naysayers would have a very difficult time arguing against the perfectly orchestrated tension and suspense.

Dispite the acknowledgement of Avatar technical accomplishments it was one of the most generic storylines of the century...

I tend to turn my back on hype and never end up watching hyped films beause...i hate hype. Inception delivered. True, as I said before the reason for the actual inception is the weakest part, the rest I will stand up and defend Nolan every step of the way. I am not a massive Nolan fan either, I respect him a lot but I think all of his passed films have been flawed (some more than others) except Memento. Thankfully he didn't cast Christian Bale in this.

This is him, and his usual suspects on top form.

:iagree: What he just said.

Saw it in New York, and out of a packed theater, I didn't detect one iota of dissatisfaction. There was a consensus of laughter when an M. Night Shyamalan preview played ahead of the film, however, which led me to believe there was a fair number of people in the theater with some scrap of taste.

As for the movie itself: Incredible.

Just got out of a 1030 IMAX show and I am in a state of shock, shocked because the film has an 84% (or lower if you look at the top critics section) on rotten tomatoes, when it easily deserves 110%. I was blown away by this film, in fact it may be the best thing I have ever seen in theaters. This movie deserved all the hype it got. I was skeptical and I am certainly not a Nolan fanboy but as a huge fan of Memento, Nolan delivered the mind-bending goods. I was more impressed by the FX in Inception than I was by the effects in Avatar. The rotating hallway and zero-g scene were vastly superior to anything in Avatar. In a nutshell, you need to see this film now, hell you need to see it twice even three times. If any movie deserves best picture at this point, it is this film.

Incredible movie... Joseph Levitt was bad ass

i dont want to sound like a hater but the only moment i was taken out of the story was when i saw michael cain

i like michael but ive seen him in so many movies and he always looks sounds and acts the same so it automatically reminds me that im watching an actor

other than that imo Best picture of the year

I have now seen Inception twice in as many days and I will go again - possibly tonight.
Easily the best film of the last 10 years IMHO.
Quite possibly the best film I've ever seen in a theater.

I love, love, love movies that make you think, and I especially love movies that demand that you pay attention. This one does both.
Visually, it's a feast. Fantastic cinematography by Wally Pfister.
Not a single frame of film is wasted. Every frame drives the story forward - and what a story it is.
Inception is a staggering masterpiece of modern cinema, if you ask me.
