According to Mystery Box checksums are a waste of time and give you a false sense of security. Any thoughts?

I don't like going against anything Sam or the rest of the Mystery Box crew have to say about imaging technology because I feel like they have a lot more knowledge and experience than I do. However, I've had 3 instances of corrupted footage in the last 2 years. These three instances also happened to be among the very few times that I copied footage from a mag without a checksum. Now when I'm making the decisions I ALWAYS use checksum software because the few times I didn't, I got burned.
It certainly could be a correlation-not-causation situation, but that's just my experience.
