The scarlet package is just in my budget (budget is about $15.000). Only problem is the SSD cards are way to expensive for me. Keeping in mind that I need at least 2-5 ours recording for an average day.
I know I can't profit from the great redcode, but for temperary I would like record on a Atomos Ninja to inprove workflow and recording time untill I saved up enought for ssd card (and redrocket).
Else I have to wait to buy or take a sidestep to fs100 or something, I don't want that.

That why I start puzzling on gear and came up with te following.
Do you guys know if it will work like this?
Do I miss stuff for making it work?
What do you think about it??

$5000 cheaper than the canon solution and you end up with the same result. If I was buying a Scarlet-X, this is the way I would do it (Except I would go Samurai as I think Scarlet has SDI output).

It is a clean output: This is in the spec's list. HD-SDI and HDMI with Frame Guides and Look Around or Clean Feed 1080p 4:2:2, 720p 4:2:2 SMPTE Timecode, HANC Metadata, 24-bit 48Khz Audio
Just like you can expect from a professional camera.

Joost - no mention of Glass here so assume you have that.
Agreed that the SSD issue punts SCARLET up to an even higher price point so some sort of separate recorder is a great alternative! I will spring for the PIX 240 myself because features with RED integration and robust audio design are too good to pass up (esp in the arctic where we roll).
Your set up makes sense tho I have to say, for myself, that the $$ spent on the RedMote could be put to better use on other more-day-to-day gadgetry, so I opted out of that. I guess it all depends on what your requirements for actual "remote" work is. Otherwise it seems a bit of a parasite, both financially and just dragging it around.

Now the one thing you DON'T seem to include is the Side Handle!? Obv it or the REDMOTE are a must-have to actually control the functionality of the camera. I would suggest that from a constant-use standpoint, the Side Handle will be a MUCH more useful daily attachment. And remember, you do not HAVE to use REDVOLTS in the Handle to power it!! Your battery rig will be fine...

Lastly I see no allowance for audio, at least as far as mic attachments, since I realize you will (like me) feed the Samuri/PIX directly. But some sort of fixed short shot-gun mic and/or a bracket to hang an RF mic receiver to will be necessary.

Hope this thread encourages LOTS of folks to post their proposed SCARLET layouts. I for one have been scouring manufacturer's sites for virtually ALL the attachment hardware and accessories to piece my SCARLET together. Thank you RED for making a camera box capable of accepting an inSANE number of configurations! And of course at least SOME of the RED hardware is accessible to us cash-strapped new RED owners.

Glad to see people making it work for them instead of complaining about the insanely low price for such amazing technology.

stephen mick is doing a group buy on the aja ki pro mini over at dvxuser, the advantage of going wit the pix is it can also be your framing monitor (in a pinch)

I have some nice canon glass. I also own some rigging stuff, arms, bolts and screws so I don't worry about attaching mic's and recievers. Would it be a problem to record fairly decent audio by recording on a ninja or samurai? The pix has a direct input for XLR, if that records direct over the videochannel would be neat.
The pix is pretty awsome but I looks a bit heavy and big. That and the price holds me back on that one. The lanc is a big plus on the pix.

I choose for the redmote because it has a nice interface wich I can see when it is on my shoulder. So I can see the settings/levels etc. propperly and don't need them on my screen. I also can add the redmote on a other place on the rig, looks more flexibel than the sidehandle to me.
Sometime I use a crane, redmote also comes in hand for that.

Hope there are more people coming up with alternitives, that would be inspiring. I already going to order the RED stuff within 2 weeks. The other stuff comes when the Scarlet arrives. Still have to think. I just know the Scarlet would be right for me. Bless the flexiblety RED gave it.

Thnx for reactions
