  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Cheap 33 ft. crane for the RED Epic

Camera stays in new position...I believe. I haven't really manned the pan/tilt head much as I'm the one usually doing the moves. I know that there are 6 settings and one "joystick". The 6 settings are Pan Speed, Tilt Speed, Start Ramp, End Ramp, Pan Center, and Tilt Center.

Thx, ... Im interested in a bit more info on this, but I appreciate what you just gave us here. Great review and great find. T

Yeah, that's the one!

I think that would be pushing it past the limit honestly! Would probably have to go for the 10kg head in that scenario.

If you go with movi+epic on that, wouldnt you just pull the remote head off all together since you would be able to pan tilt with movi?

Ahh, good point. Yeah, that thing weighs a lot too. They are sending me their version of the "Movi" so I will be able to try that out soon hopefully!

Word. The crane should support a gimbal plus epic i would imagine. Let me know. I have a gimbal coming and this crane is my next big purchase :)

I'm quite interested in the 10Kg one so a little more can be piled onto the camera
Noticed they sell that model with two different arm diameters too

Will do! Probably will upload a review of their gimbal and will talk about it and how it works with the crane in the video.

Kudos to you sir, this is seriously helping us forward. Thanks! T

Yes, I meant removing the original remote head, and replacing it with a Movi (which should be way lighter than their remote head). Do you know what the weight of the original head is ?

Have you contacted them regarding a group buy on this? I'm sure lots of people would snap this up....

Nicely done Luke!

Good thing is that even for some one as myself which when allowed by time and by a place set up to do it, as I was in my house in Cali, when I buy or get sponsored gear that does not exactly fit my needs, or I fill that could use little structural changes and or reinforcing here and there, it is much easier to do so on an already exiting unit then go and try to build one for scratch, and this avoids lots of possible issues and dangers.

But of course first I am not saying that this crane in particular might need reinforcing nor structural changes, just saying that if I or any one else was to do so on such piece of gear it could be done and made possibly better, if of course also the person doing this changes knows what He/She is doing... ;)

True! I'm sure with a few tweaks this one could be made even better. Like someone was saying, swap out the head and throw a "Movi" type gimbal on there. Always easier to work from a template than from scratch!

Not off the top of my head. I would guess it's about 20lbs.
Well, then a fully charged Movi with an Epic should be no problem on this crane if you replace the original head by the Movi. :)
A Movi M10 can take 10-12 lbs, and weights around 4 lbs, so a fully loaded Movi should weight around 15 lbs. Nice.

Btw, I got a response from them (at Came), unfortunately they are not willing to split the package and sell the crane without the remote head and monitor.

Luke-- I am strongly interested in the EPIC Package you had listed... can you please let me know if it is still available... I'm not sure whether you got all my other messages. I'be PM'd you about three times I think. Looks like a bunch of people have inquired to no avail up on the forum too. Let us know what status is please-- thanks

THanks for this Luke. The 27 footer says it's rated for 6kg and the 33 is 5kg. They are different designs - one has the triangle frame and the other more square - do you know the difference? Have you seen them side by side?

I haven't seen them side by side but hope to in the near future!
