  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Cheap 33 ft. crane for the RED Epic

, I wouldn't agree that this one is dangerous because it's cheaper.

Yes, I agree too. Screws and aluminium parts are made to carry a certain amount of weight, being chinese, american or european doesn't change a thing.
I can worn out with time but if you take care of it, and service the part that need to be serviced on time, it's not a problem, well more than any other crane.

I know several grip who built their own crane, the cost was certainly not as high as a cinema crane manufacturer and lower than the chinese street prices.

I own an egripment supermaxi jib, and I'm considering getting that crane too.

Yes, I know quite a few that build their own as well. Just have to be smart and safe. No different than an american made/consumer one!

Thanks for the review ! The price is impressive indeed (and free shipping, seriously ?).

I'd be curious to put a Movi on there instead of their own remote head. That would certainly be an interesting combination !

I wonder if they'd sell a stripped down version without the remote head and monitor... Wonder how much that would cost.

Since we did this review they want us to test out more of their gear and they have their version of the "Movi" and that's the first thing I thought about doing as well!

I am really interested on 10KG one, love to see review and also their 100mm Bowl Head CF tripod. just under $1000

Hey Luke, you mention that there are 7 sections in front and 2 sections behind (or something like that); does that mean if you don't need all 33ft you could reduce the amount of sections in front/behind? Just wondering if you'd actually need to get a 15ft jib if you had the 33ft and if you could just remove sections to make it shorter.

Correct. You can break it down and also shoot with 3 in front/1 in back, 5 in front/2 in back.

One question about controlling the head on the crane. Is the controller open loop or closed loop servo?
(does the camera return to central position when levers are released or does the camera stay in the new position when levers are released?)

thx for the review. Thommes.

Camera stays in new position...I believe. I haven't really manned the pan/tilt head much as I'm the one usually doing the moves. I know that there are 6 settings and one "joystick". The 6 settings are Pan Speed, Tilt Speed, Start Ramp, End Ramp, Pan Center, and Tilt Center.

Luke,
you went with this one, right ?

Do you think a "Movi + Epic" setup would work on that one (without dangerously pushing it to its limits, I mean) ?

I'm trying to find out what the differences are between their 3 big cranes. It's not clear to me if only the remote heads are different, or also the cranes ?

I sent them an email asking if they were willing to sell only the crane without the remote head and monitor. We'll see what they say...

Has anyone been able to verify if that "free shipping" also works for these items ? Sounds crazy.
