  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Censorship on the "RED Komodo Uses" facebook group

I actually agree with the "there is no freedom of speech in a FB group"-statement. That's just how it is. If there are rules you don't like just leave. That maybe frustrating but that's simply how it is.

But: Rules should apply to every user and every post the same way. If we as users are asked to follow the rules we should at least be able to trust that admins are consistent when it comes to "enforcing" these rules. And that doesn't always seem to be the case in that FB group. From my point of view this group wasn't only created to post some Komodo announcements but also for users to help each other out in the decision-making process, discuss advantages and disadvantages (as much as that is possible as of now) etc. If one post gets deleted for "violating the rules" and another one doing the exact same thing shortly after that is not...that's not what I'd call consistent. No hard feelings here, I don't mind that my post was deleted even though I don't think I violated the rules and if so lots and lots of other posts would have to be deleted (including another one of mine :) ). In the end it's just FB and just (a) camera(s).

I am in all the facebook groups, for both ARRI and RED and let me tell you, the RED Komodo facebook group is complete TRASH. The way it is moderated is complete TRASH. I just don't post in the group. Jarred Land validates these groups by being a part of them which is great but he should also coach these guys on RED community standards. As someone that has spent like $60,000+ on red cameras and accessories, and own a rental house, I was completely turned off by the way the moderators were treating people in these groups. Made me not want to learn about the camera, at least not through that medium. People should not personally attack people uploading footage, but if someone has general criticisms about the quality of the image, it is something we should discuss as a community. What the original poster posted should not be a "bannable" offense. Quit banning people, quit censoring people, quit abusing your moderator powers. I love red and I support them through my WALLET, that doesn't mean we have to be fanboys. That group seems so fake, because everyone is afraid to say anything, and that's why the engagement has gone WaAAAAAYYYY down. This post isn't directed at specific moderator, its just at the group in general. You guys have made it an unenjoyable experience, and you should work on that! Getting rid of every poster that doesn't cheerlead for red is not the answer.

For the record, im not banned from the group (yet), and don't know the original poster at all, but I felt like speaking out.

Thank you, I will not waste my time with these groups. I am new to the RED community and have been told that I must be present in these communities. But as you can see, it doesn't make much sense.
