Celere lenses by Hanse Inno Tech

Erich, maybe it was lost in my post but I'm wasn't evaluating strengths and weaknesses of each lens set, as they both have strengths and weaknesses. So while a Celere is 1.75 stops faster, (which can be a great use for those who need the speed,) my comments were exclusively in the context of how well they could match the look of S4's.

The poster I was replying to was wondering if Celere with emulated 'cooke' color matched coatings could be integrated into a set of Cooke S4 lenses and match. If using the lenses for a purpose in that context, I made the point that I thought it was a wasted effort to make the Celere's integrate into a set of Cooke S4's versus using the already available Mini S4's because no matter how well they manage to emulate Cooke, it won't be a better match.

However, people use mismatched lenses all the time and if you select carefully, shoot in a way to hide the differences and do some extra post work, most things can look like something else when used sparsely or well. The point is, if matching S4's with a budget set of lenses is the goal and you're not using Mini S4's, your priorities are things other than matching S4's.

That said, my intention was not to rip on the Celere lenses. I feel the Celere lenses definitely have their useful place in the world of budget cinema lenses and I commend the creators of the lenses on their interesting approach with such positive results. We should definitely celebrate the fun options of different lens coatings and the creative choices they offer. That's the real goodness.

A bigger deal than matching in with the Cooke Look (IMO), is the fact that the Celeres share the same coatings as Angenieux (it's the same supplier), so it's quite possible that they'll cut in with Optimo zooms much more seamlessly than Cooke or Zeiss primes will.

Personally, I'm just excited that (once the 18.5mm joins the set) we'll have a set of Superspeeds that can be rented for the same sort of price as a set of CP.2s! That's a big deal when you're faced with lighting night exteriors on a budget.

Hi,

I'd like to buy the 4 lenses package but first I would like to see a R3D RAW image of them performing with weapon or dragon for example.
Anyone on REDuser willing to share R3D RAW pics with me ?

I would highly appreciated your help

Best

Hi Gwen,

did you got my mail?

I'm planing an extensive test of the full Celere set, either in August or after IBC. Will post the result here on reduser incl. the R3D files.
Hanse Inno Tech will also send me (hopefully soon) some frame grabs which I'll post here.

Cheers

Can the net holder and/or rear element protection be made as a user removable attachment to a shorter PL mount?

Lars at Hanse Inno Tech is trying to figure out a solution. I should get an update about it next week.

This is great news. I think it would be helpful, if possible, to use scenes not unlike the SALT WFO tests: http://www.reduser.net/forum/showth...igh-Speed-Lens-Shootout-quot-WFO-quot-Results

What I liked about those tests was not just seeing resolution charts, but seeing bokeh and flare and character in scenes that gave plenty to look at. In some tests posted on REDUSER we see one bright-to-dark edge (such as an illuminated face against black background), one light source (such as a candle) that can show bokeh, and if that one feature doesn't show well (purple fringing, whatever), it creates a very binary picture of the lens. By having lots of elements that show the lens's behavior, we can see whether the repeated elements create a kind of consistency that's pleasing or just a mess. It reduces, for me, the very subjective evaluation of an artificially soloed feature.

Looking forward to the results...I'm cheering for you.

Yes I did, thank you
I will reply on Monday as soon as I get back to the office
Can wait to see the tests

Just send you an email. I'm still looking for someone to share R3D RAW pics of theses lenses ( skintone, bokeh and wide open shots )

Cheers

I was involved in the testing for Sense8 with John Toll, ASC and I can confirm that the Celere lenses did not exist at the time of that production.

I'm not on Facebook, but I saw that this happened:

How's progress on the 135mm?

Last week, we were given the opportunity to test the first out of four uncoated prototypes of the Celere 36mm T1.5 by Hanse Inno Tech GmbH under various light conditions. The result: very natural and soft skin tones, at the same time a nuanced appearance of green shades and lensflares with interesting image characteristics.

I tried them. You want to own them. Order a set from ABEL CINE now - because they won't be able to make them fast enough.

I will have them on 8K VV in RED BOOTH and on 8K HELIUM in VITEC booth at IBC.

Mark, what coating do you have?

My set is not here yet - I had demo set from ABEL CINE - they were Leica-like - but you can have a lens tech swap the front element in 2 minutes by design - so the idea is to buy MORE front elements with different coating (or un-coated).

Yes...I like this too. I just wondered what coating you ordered...if there is a list out yet that is.

so far there is the coating that comes on the lenses from the factory which looks very Leica ish. They are just now coming out with uncoated fronts soon, Then from there i believe its going to be cooke and angenieux match next
