  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Carbonite Scope - It allows you to use your RED TOUCH 5.0" LCD display like an EVF

i've been trying to get hold of jason for a while now but have just requested a refund as it all seems a bit messy. Shame i would really love the product but Jason is not delivering the goods.
I'll let you know how the refund goes but i'm not really hopeful with lack of communication from jason

I'm trying to get a refund from jason for 2 weeks now, and he replyd he's going to the refund the money (on the 24 of july) but didn't do it yet. Hate to go public about all of this, but i fear it's the only way to get my money back, because just asking through email doesn't work with him. c'mon jason, refund the money please?

still no money back or reaction from jason, what to do?? These feels like fraud if someone is refusing to give you back your money and doesn't respond to email...What are my options to get my money back?? i'm feeling quite scammed right now

The mailman handed me the box containing my Cinema Oxide scope 30 minutes ago; it's no longer just a figment of my imagination. Haven't had time to use it, but I have installed it and it does resolve the principle issues I was interested in: Critical focus is much easier, viewing in bright sunlight is not a problem and it's much easier to compose within the frame with everything external and extraneous to the image blocked out.

The loop appears to be very well thought out, well made and finished. Among other things, there are no longer visible seams in the carbon, rubber cushions on the mounting frame protect the LCD and the scope easily flips out of the way.

The scope is easily installed by loosening four set screws on the mounting brackets, removing two screws at the top of the mounting brackets so the brackets can be separated and slid onto the LCD from opposite sides, re-installing the two screws and slightly tightening the set screws.

And, under the heading of "photos or it didn't happen," I've attached three views.

From what I understand this is an upgraded model. Jason made a number of nice changes from the original version. Last time I spoke with him, he called it the "Carbonite 2"
The carbon housing is all one piece now, not two.

I know there are a number of small changes, but the one I care about is that he changed the eyecup so that now you can use a standard eye cushion from Filmtools.. I begged and begged for this one.

So I guess it's worth mentioning that at this point, Jason and David are two different people selling two different things.. So be sure of what you are buying, and from whom.

You are right to be worried Blair. This whole thing has been kind of a train wreck. However I think Jason has it under control now, he has complete control of his supply chain and he seems more relaxed now. I would suggest you call him via phone to express any concerns. He'll be able to answer your questions directly, and then you can decide what to do. I think it's cinema oxide.com

Update...

I received my scope about a month ago. I have to say it continues to blow me away. I've shot at least 25 of the last 30 days and have used the scope for almost every shot. It is significantly better that the OLPF bomb. It is significantly better than the other scope I have because of the diopter and quick release mechanism. I would strongly suggest buying one you won't regret it.

Best, Peter

Hi Daniel,
