  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Hello Iam just finishing a Carbon remote head for a client in Australia.
I will update with photos soon.
The remote head can be supplied with Maxon motors and speed controller
or I can even adapt it to work with inclino motors from VF .
The first option will sell around 5000 USD
The second option with out the Inclino motors and controls will sell around
3300 USD ready to accept the motors.
If of any interest on this pm me and I will get back to you with more info.
The head weights around 5 kilos , can be adapted to various jibs and mounts
and its rock solid supporting any cameras up to 50 lbs.
Thanks:reddevil:

Congratulation Constantine! Looking to see and use your remote head shortly, may I get pictures from you?

Cheers & Thanks

Yeah I like it too. The Maxon gearheds Iam planing on using are much stronger than these and smooth as butter.Just a bit noisier than the Jimmy jib motors but better.
Iam working with a firend that has a friend in US that makes robotic gadgets in the past for Lucas and I will try to also take this to MOCO if there is enough interest. So you can record moves .
Thanks for the feedback.
If you like PM me so I can update you directly with stuff.

Now we're talking!!! I would also be interested in some kind of dolly system with it, if possible.

So you need a motorized dolly and a remote head that can be precise and record moves and cooperate with software for 3d environment.
What program would you be interested in working with, Maya, or similar?
For this I can use steppers with gears for better resolution and smoothness but it aint gonna be quiet IAM afraid most mocos arent anyway.
Also you need a dolly system that is light weight and have together a modular system and light weight that you can carry around for your projects easily.
Carbon fiber dolly system?
Yes I can do that if you are in Iam in.
Fredrick pm me so we can talk about this in detail.
Cheers

How much for just the mechanical bits? I have my own remote head with motors and controllers and I would just transfer them over.

Hi Constantine,
I just found this thread.
This sounds very promising...

A few questions (I'd probably have more, but let's start with these) :
To what kind of existing head could yours be compared to ? (regarding vibrations, fluidity, etc...)
Since you seem to already have an assembled prototype, would you be able to post a video with some shots done with it (with sound, so we can hear the noise levels of the motors) ?

Are you talking about making 2 different versions, one MOCO and one normal, or will you only do the MOCO version in the end ? From what I got, the only downside from the MOCO version would be noise (and price) ? How noisy are we speaking here ?
Adding a 4th MOCO axis (dolly) would also be possible ?
Will you be able to export data to 3D software like 3DS Max for example ?
Would a pan-bar also be an option to control the rig ?

How will your system behave in rough conditions, like humid places, dusty places, hot places, etc... ?

Thanks,
Nils.

Hello Nils. some answers.
As far as the motor control for the normal head this prototype I have made for a customer uses jimmy jib quiet drive gear motors. So if you have experience with triangle heads its behavior and response is the same as any triangle head. But the head is better in terms of rigidity, its lighter, and it can be balanced in the Y axis as well to have a totally camera and head balanced for better smoother panning motion. And its also has double bearings in all axis plus wires through hollow shafts for both axis so more and easier 360s in both axis.
Now I will be changing the gear motors with Maxon gear motors and another quiet drive system , and the noise level is the same as jimmy jib motors. There is no prob what so ever with dust and humidity or lets say what ever applies to other heads applies to the Carbon head as well. The Carbon head is also fully upgradeable to a 3rd roll axis.
Now as far as MOCO conserns Iam still waiting to see if I can run the system with Kuper motion controller. Its going to be running with steppers, and steppers are very noisy but that is not a concern for sfx shots. Most MOCOS are very noisy but they are made for different application than sound. The alternative to noise reduction is to use brush less maxon gear motors with encoders , and Iam looking at this as well , but its more wires, electronics, and complexity to this than steppers.
To answer your question though even the dc motor and encoders will be noisier than jimmy jib style heads but at a reasonable and I believe acceptable noise level.
A pan bar and wheels as well as joystick control will be available for input control of the head and dolly.
I will start working on the MOCO version for now as there is some demand for it and at the same time I might as well fit the other electronics to demo the head, as it will be interchangeable.
I do not want to make comparison with other Manufacturers its not my style.
But both heads are very smooth and very precise .And I believe very cost effective for what they are.And I have tried and operated many heads in my 20 year old carrier to come to that conclusion if that means something.

Please follow this thread for updates or pm me for additional info
Thanks for your interest
EDIT Yes Iam making a remote MOCO dolly as well:badputer:
