  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Very happy for your Carbon to finally be in hand! You were probably the most anxious to get the Carbon out of all of us, so I'm glad it's finally happened! Now go shoot some cool shit!

Reduser is a second home for me, I grew up here with lots of advice to all of you, this community is the best I know . All are helped and listened and this is what he did the RED team , we now have the best camera in the world at this time, it is important to never stop.

The Carbon is as I expected, its grams less make much difference in a run and gun setup , it's fucking amazing. This is a huge advantage nowadays .
I did some test for now to understand this beast , the images are stunning , they have a softness and delicacy that leave you speechless.
RED did a fucking amazing job , you are strong RED TEAM .

Ha ha indeed Gigi... We should pass thru Switzerland to shoot some Dragon footage so we'll absolutely let you know!!
 
At this time I was able to use the Carbon and try the new beast.
I still Epic in the house, but as with most of you when you use Dragon will never go back more .
I'm not the type to test , so do not expect before the test charts or other such things , I prefer to see with my own eyes what happens , touch the differences for yourself .
I am very okay with the post by Timur Civan , as soon as I had the opportunity I have used Dragon on the set, be the first impact was not able to tell the difference WOWOW , but the image was something different from the beautiful Red Epic .
Then we realized the strength of DRagon , the muddiness in the low average , no longer exists , the skin tones are fantastic even with tungsten light, for me this was a limitation in low lights with Epic.
Epic Dragon is most definitely clean low light , but also have more dynamic range in the blacks , nice to see detail in low light in the monitor to raise its head on the set and not being able to see .. Dragon is a beautiful fucking sensor.
In the high lights to be very soft , even here we have certainly more dynamic range than the Epic.
DRagon difficult to describe with words , then when you arrive in post production there is the smile of the mouth, low you can go wherever you want without difficulty. Fabulous .
The resolution, which many of you do not care about anything , but let me say this 6k and smooth as silk and you will notice the difference and many more.
As for the weight Carbon impressed me in version run and gun now weighs a little more than a Canon 1Dx wowowo . I am very happy .
I shoot a lot with redvolt and canon lenses in this video, and Carbon is what I wanted, great job Red Team .
Yesterday I was called to a skating show , I got the call to do slow motion , well I got Dragon with me and I went.
On the set, there were 2 Arri Alexa ... well I could not resist , so I approached them , one of them asked me what camera was obviously the Carbon in the dark you can not see eehhe politely told him I was the new Red Dragon Carbon ... curiously called me near and so we put the next Red with Alexa monitors connected neighbors, the same opening , unfortunately with a different lens I REd Prime and him with Zeiss Ultra , well what mattered to me at that moment is to see the dynamic range and what you could see ... hehe The boys were impressed Arri , less noise at ISO 800 , more resolution , in blacks Dragon read more ' in the high lights are the same , perhaps something more DRagon but hard to tell on the monitor , colors more vivid on DRagon ...
Their word was , Holy shit this beautiful RED Dragon that , I was pretty damn happy :biggrin:, I brought home some nice slow motion 100 fps 4.5k that evening and the producer was thrilled .
Have no doubts who can do an upgrade to DRagon do so immediately without thinking.


negative things that I dislike most::scared:

-Still a long time for blackshading, I would push the button and after 10 seconds have finished.

- I still have to wait a few minutes before the camera goes in temperature would otherwise have too much noise to the left of the screen.

Very cool Luigi. Thus far everybody I've shown the camera and footage to have had a similar "hey that's kinda of pretty" effect. This is the best news really for Dragon.

Just a couple notes on these:

- Black shading. I find I have to do it less with Dragon as it has generally a broader usable range. However, once shooting past 72fps or so I have to black shade. 9 minutes. I often wonder if a larger Black Shade calibration can run, say 15 minutes or so and provide the ability to maintain 180 degree shutter from 12-120fps. But, who knows what's actually possible on that front.

- Operating temp. I find that it heats up nice in cold weather, but I know what you're saying. Dragon does have a sensor heater in there of some sort, so that might be something that gets tweaked over time via firmware.

Phil of course, would like to have the speed of blackshading as they were on the RED ONE. I pushed the button and soon everything was ok.
They certainly are the best 9 minutes of 15 minutes, we can put some of the various calibrations card ssd, but we sometimes forget where I am and 9 minutes can be many.
It is necessary to keep it heated, especially in extremely cold places, just turn off after a few minutes I find the camera 10 degrees and before going to the operating temperature spend another 10 minutes, otherwise the sensor I have all blue on one side. Obviously this does not happen on a studio set everything runs smoothly.
Surely everything improves, RED is listen to our complaints;)

THIS is ONLY a test below 2500 kelvin color temperature, low light, Dragon vs Epic. With Redprime 50mm t2
I stopped at the flight under a street lamp, the temperature of this light be hellish 2000-2500 kelvin.
I state that this was just a test for contamination of tungsten and not a color grading or dynamics or resolution.
Honestly, the light was very low and my eyes saw what I did was download all much more dark, the lamp was about 10 meters above your head.
So as I said I do not go over in my movies than what the eye does not see, simply do not like.
I just want to reassure people who have doubts about the low light DRagon.
In this small movie proress you can see how clean DRagon to 2000 degrees kelvin to 3200 ISO, against Epic 2000kelvin 3200iso, Dragon is still usable, Epic has too much contamination. This being a critical case, but from what I've seen certainly in light of the windows and light in the city center with DRagon there are no problems, appears to be better than the Epic on all fronts.
Also do the tests when the weather permits. It snows and rains a lot now.
One very nice thing that I found in my Carbon is that it heats up quickly, the sensor and the outside world, in 3 minutes I was ready to shoot, and with Epic I had to wait 15 minutes and was not ready yet ..
The outside temperature was -3 degrees celsius.
Maybe being the carcass Carbon which makes everything more isolated.
But still light of the evidence on this front.

To forget, I am very sad, I can not turn more to my EPIC ... since using DRagon.
I am convinced that Graeme with the new color science DRagon to amaze us even more, Dragon can go even further than what I see, and the news that we expect at NAB ...

Not only that, Sergio Corbucci Directed the original and wrote the story together with his brother Bruno, so a all bunch of Italians actually giving permission to Quentin... ;)

If you black Epic MX at 1/100 you get 12fps to about 200fps (or more), the mistake is to black shade at 1/48.
