  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Canon mount for epic needed

Has anybody heard from A-Star as to when the A-Star EPIC version will be available? He already has the Canon, Nikon, OCT19, BNCR, and PL adapters shipping, but so far only a RED One mount. Thanks

I'd vote for the mini-XLRs as the dumbest idea coming out of RED, but I don't exactly know how I would have proposed fitting four XLRs on the side of the camera, either.

The Canon mount sounds terrific! If it works at least as well as the Birger, it's going to be great. If it works even better, it will be Gonzo!

Youd better ask him but he told me it is on its way and would be completed when he had his Epic Camera. And if I might add its a great mount too.

A couple of days ago ALLSTAR told me He's open to volunteers to send an Epic PL mount to him, so he can make it.
He's waiting for his EPIC-X, so if he can't get a PL mount from somewhere else, it'll be a while before he gets his a-mount made.

I wonder if he should just ask for one from RED?

Yeah Stephen that would be killer. But the Birger works with a wireless followfocus knob and that's just awesome. Did anybody hear any news about the redmote pro?
That thing would be the best invention since the R1. I own the Birger and I realy like it as long it is working right. Most of the time it does.

So a canon mount without a wireless followfocus knob isn't that much of a help because of the narrow focus throw of all AF lenses. With a wireless FF you could dial in a longer distance and you are all good.

EPIC Canon mount is not shipping yet.. still fine tuning software. Should ship by end of June.

and btw.. it is worth the wait :)

Jarred, I don't doubt it. I'm more interested in the Nikon mount.

Is there any reason you couldn't ship the physical mount (Canon or Nikon) immediately, even with unfinished software, to use as a dumb mount - then patch the software to enable all the tricks later when it's finished?

Or are we talking about very low-level software embedded in the physical mount hardware, which isn't field-upgradeable?

I agree. Nikons Gs can be used on a canon mount via a Novoflex adapter (with iris control for G lenses). No software necessary, or even usable.

What do you think about lens like 50mm EF F/1,4...would work right the EF series from canon ? or it´s a cheap series and it´s better forget it and buy a nice Zeiss

Best regards ;)

depends :)

I have a feeling if I took a vote... you guys would prefer the option to get the mount before autofocus was complete.

LOL. :-)

Of course ! If we can get the autofocus with a firmware update later...

Yep. Nikon, too, especially if auto-focus can be updated with firmware and even if the mount has to be returned to Red for the update.
But, as far as I'm concerned, auto-focus is just frosting on the cake. The real need is for Redmote Pro wireless follow-focus, which will presumably allow for remapping still lens short-throw focus range.
