  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Canon L Series or Zeiss ZE Primes??? Please HELP!!!

Sorry to derail... Björn, do you use an FD mount? If so which one? Or did you convert them?

Bought one on ebay. Love it, and our FD collection. These lenses are so nicely built, to me they feel like little miniature master primes, but with bigger coverage than the real deal. Can not wait to mount them infront of the dragon, corner to corner sharpness will make a difference then.

All credit goes to Bjorn for discussing FD lenses on this board, we purchased a set also, and an FD mount of ebay from the Gentleman in Poland who makes them. They are of high spec and work well. The FD mount is more solid then EF but even so we may get ours remounted to EF to use on other cameras. with EF mount. Its possible to do with Ed Mika's mount or I believe Les Bosher can re mount them with stainless steel mounts. The FD glass is very nice and in some ways has more character in the Bokeh than EF lenses. The mechanics are very good for a stills lens.

Hi Jacek,

thanks for the information. I've felt for some time that the inevitable evolution of glass must end in the smallest most finely crafted lenses possible w total continous electronic control. Unnecessary size is wasteful & a burden to carry or rig. That said, will your mount actually provide anything resembling usable smooth continuous AF w/ canon lenses?

can u pm me the price of your system, including the wireless solution? Is anyone using this system w/ steadicam?

Thanks again,
PCG
If you are at NAB we have a system that show cases the potential of this tech.
Wireless, intergrated with a wireless HD monitor, hand held, studio, guerrilla run and gun configurations. For every production style.
Steadicam, certainly :)
come check it out at the Sony booth
Starting at roughly $1700

Hehe. Great. I have some sitting in my shelves waiting to get mounted on my camera... Thanks!

Its like an orgasmic experience to push focus in a mechanic precision lenses.
And the pleasure of a manual declicked Iris? ohhhh , thats exciting ,

I really dont like the canon way , thats too much auto focus flexible plastic feeling for me , Thaths anoying whem i need to push focus on canon glasses.

Since i got my full metal jacket ZF.2 set , that was a real visual upgrade on my footage , it feels more natural , way more mature footage.
Thats just me.
Auto focus lenses are made for autofocus jobs.

are some canons F1.2? really?
I really dont like the F1.2 aberrations. It's unusuable for me.

I have Canon 24-70L and Zeiss ZE 21mm, 85mm. Modest start. I love the convenience of my Canon zoom but focus can be touchy. I avoid racking focus with the Canon for the Scarlet.
On the other hand, my Zeiss Primes force me to move around more (to compose my shots), even with my tripod, and stay alert on the focus ring. (Reminds me of my high-school days shooting 5 yearbooks with a manual Olympus OM1 and one 50mm lens).
I agree the Canon is warmer, but I just love the contrast/sharp/very slightly cool look of the Zeiss lenses. It may be marketing hype, but many reviewers consider the Zeiss 21mm to be the sharpest lens you can put on a camera, period.

Re converting FD mount lenses to EF - In the UK speak to Eddie Houston http://www.thelensdoctor.co.uk/ who permanently modifies FD lenses or offers (apparently) excellent adapters. Also, he played guitar with Thin Lizzy for a while so that makes his lens conversions +1 cooler :)
