  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

[FS: OPTICS] Canon K35 Set stolen (London)

Very glad you got those back. Your experience really made me review our rental policies (including "helping" friends out with free loans) and care in getting insurance certificates before anything goes out the door. We have a set of K35's too and they would be very hard to replace. Great lenses and I'm glad they came home to you.

Massive thanks everyone. I couldn't be happier and I know how lucky I've been to get them back! This has definitely been a tough but valuable learning experience and I'm going to completely change my approach to rentals from now on.

If anyone wants to know who the production company are, I'll be happy to let them know via PM. I'd hate for other people to have the same experience with them that I've had so I have no issues notifying anyone privately, but I'm reluctant to publicly name them at this stage, just in case further action is required and it jeopardises my position.

Incidentally, when i was trying to find the lenses online, I came across these on ebay: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/301009014667?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649

The seller implies that they're K35's and the description is the same description used to describe true K35 lenses (Academy award for innovation, used on Aliens etc). He appears to be selling an entire set, but as far as I can see they don't appear to be K35's, or at least not K35's that I've ever some across. I know some of you are interested in these lenses, so might be useful.

Amazing stuff Ian. I've been following this thread from afar and it's great to hear they have been located.

Just round the corner from you in Lewisham. Funnily enough just in the middle of trying to sort out insurance for my Red and intending to get it covered for rental too. This entire thread is giving me nightmares and it might be time for a strategic rethink!

EDIT: Actually come to think of it, maybe I should find out who the company are as there's a chance I might work with them!

Ian, Very glad you got your lenses back. I am up the road from you in Forest Hill - I have had a set of K35s for sometime - mine were used by Oliver Stapleton to shoot 'Absolute Beginners' - I had them converted to PL from BNCR about 5 years ago. I don't like letting them out on dry hire as they are not the most robust lenses.
The lenses on the ebay auction are not K35s but are converted Canon FD lenses which were produced through/by Movicam when they introduced their 35mm camera. Ask Tony Covell about them - he use to rent them out.

Im very pleased the lenses have been recovered.

I know the guys at Quartz very well and they are good, honest and work hard to give good cover.

I also know as a rental house that the only issues we tend to get are companies who argue about hire contracts, if they do we don't supply. We always insist on a copy of their policy and ensure risk is covered. Im told our T&C's are robust too.

The good companies don't argue about cover and I have to say when issues have occurred with kit they have been good an honest to deal with.

I hope the less than honest companies and individuals find they way out of business. Avoid them at all times.

These are rehoused Canon FD lenses.

OH that's awesome. I'm going to e-mail Kat Wong about this case. Maybe she can jump on and give us some clarification in a case like yours Ian.

Thanks for keeping people up to date with your situation and I'm so glad your lenses were returned!

Hi everyone, I just wanted to let you know that my lenses have been located and I'm picking them up from the police on Wednesday! It looks as though they were randomly dumped a couple of weeks after the theft, and luckily they were picked up by someone who informed the police. Presumably, whoever stole them didn't know what to do with them so just ditched them after failing to sell them. I'm not sure what condition they're in yet, but the policeman I spoke to thinks the lenses haven't been removed from the flight case, so we'll see!

I still have a dispute with the production company and I think their behaviour over this situation has been abhorrent, but the important thing is that the lenses have been found.

Anyway, I just wanted to offer my sincerest thanks to everyone's help and advice, I can't tell you how much I appreciate it! If any of you ever find yourself in Brixton, please feel free to pop in my studio and say hello!

If you know of any, POINT THEM OUT and help others avoid them entirely.

I hope the less than honest companies and individuals find they way out of business. Avoid them at all times.

Wow. U work super hard for stuff and have it ripped off in a heartbeat. I couldn't imagine having even my crappy canon EF mount lenses stolen let alone these fine optical masterpieces u had lifted. My heart hurts fo ya bro. Hope u find them and the butt munch that took em.

Ian,

Very happy you got your lenses back! Were they damaged in any way? Take PICS of them now and keep them and their serial numbers/pics on file! OR you can just sell them to me and be rid of the bad memories!

;-)

lol Thanks Christopher, they're practically glued to my side the moment, which is proving to be tricky during trips to the toilet and shower...

There's a small dent to the side of the 18 but it's only a cosmetic blemish and aside from that, all lenses are miraculously still in good condition! They're just a bit grubby. I'm going to be getting them serviced very soon, but I've now taken detailed pictures of all the lenses!
