  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

I don't think that any product launch video for any new camera by any major camera manufacturer has ever truly shown what the camera was actually capable of.
 
Have any 8k .crms or raw stills been posted yet? Wanna dig into some.

Admittedly lost a lot of steam for the R5 (from a video perspective) as it's now more of a FF35 4k pixel-binning 10bit 422 camera, and those files will likely have a more difficult time playing back than 6k raw clips out of REDs/BMDs. Again, maybe we'll get lucky and see 4k (or better still 8k WS) raw modes that can record without overheating, but I wouldn't spend the money hoping that happens (again, "R5C" is probably inbound). Plus BMD and Sony still need to fire back (though I doubt Sony will do raw internally, nor 8k.)

Conversely, if I was looking for an awesome stills cameras, it certainly seems to fit the bill nicely...

If most of your gigs are stills first, video second (or not at all) the R5 looks pretty spicy. Even more so if having a proper human focus puller isn't likely and you need to lean on the auto focus.

If motion content is your primary deliverable and you're working with a 1stAC/puller, then why take on the overheating issue?

Since the RedOne shook up the industry, many of us have pointed to Canon as the logical candidate to compete in the space. Don't know if it was RED's patent, internal politics at Canon, or something else but they still seem to not fully understand our needs. That said, it should be fun to grab some oven mitts and see what the R5 can do ;-)

They may have gotten lucky with cloud cover or had a big ol' diffusion, but those edits of the beach shots look reallllly good to me, Rand...

I wanted to get the full res 8K .CRM to mess with. Started downloading the smallest now (the ~600meg one), and I'll leave the others to download overnight.
