  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Canon 5d Markll goes to EGYPT & BEIRUT

Very good!

Pretty oriental, also dolly Pocket dolly worked gorgeous.

We know that Canon 5dMk2 or any other HD video enabled DSLR looks good on the Internet size picture but...

Amazingly beautiful Khalid!! Well done!!

To Sanjin: what the f**k are you saying?? "We know that Canon 5dMk2 or any other HD video enabled DSLR looks good on the Internet size picture but..." What kind of arrogant comment is that? That's a totally useless thing to say to a post such as Khalids. Idiot.

Hi Tinkleton,

thank you for your kind words.

It's not about aesthetic achievement of Khalid's web video.

And nobody is arrogant here, it's about a technical reality of HDSLRs only.

Learn more about it here>>>

Hope now you get it right...

Take it or leave it.

Also we would need a real name policy here again...

The reality is that Khalid and his friends made a beautiful thing, and your comment was uncalled for. Who gives a sh*t about what the cameras limitations are when it looks GOOD? But whatever maestro, I don't want to derail this thread with your nonsense.

Very elegant rich montage. Loved it Khalid. The way you shot this plays to the Canon's strengths quite nicely.

Impressive footage Khalid :) what was the documentary u guys shot in lebanon about ?

Tinkleton,

we need your real name here at the forum and then I will "take care" about you, your loudness... :cornut:. :boxing_smiley:

Thanks to all. Sanjin, yes it looks good on small picture size and looks even better full screen. I uploaded the H.264 version on vimeo so you can compare quality.

Sally, the documentary was about a couple authors who write about the current political and economical situation in both countries. We tried to make up for the dry topics by shooting cinematic visuals. It should be great when its done.

I've posted some behind the scenes photos and grading before and after comparisons on cinema5d.com

It does look better full screen. Beautiful work, Khalid.

I watched it on my 42 inch HDTV and it looks incredible!

Khalid,

once more congratulations, well done and it's a beautiful work.

Also nothing against it.

About H.264 we were already "heavily" discussed here before that video quality out of 5DMK2 or 7D can't compare

with RED1 at the same compression and resolution (1080p).

Maybe its more that its inconsiderate and a bit rude to come in here and be dismissive of someone's work like that. You don't need to give your viewpoint all of the time.

And for my money this looks better than lots of footage I have seen from many digital cameras - Filmstream and Red included (and I watched it on a 50 inch screen) - goes to show its the guy behind the camera not necessarily the codec. Nice footage - you should be proud of that.

A few guys are always going to talk about specs and most people will just look at the pictures. The truth is these little DLSRs in the hands of talented people can be f'n amazing even on a big screen TV in HD.

I've seen a lot worse come out of my RED. Hell... I've seen a lot worse come out of YOUR RED Sanjin. :001_tongue:

It's good to see someone actually using their kit, be it dslr or red. Sanjin, you've had your red for almost 2 years, and we are still waiting for something to watch, other than quick and dirty lens tests.

Hi,

Beautiful images. I think the dynamic range & skin tones are far better than images I have seen from many other digital cameras, even ones with S35 sensors.

Stephen

Khalid, that is a beautiful piece of work. Thanks for taking the time to share it with us. Very inspiring. Please let us know when the documentary is completed and how we might see it. Shokran.

Steve,

you are right, but simultaneously I had something else to do with other job(s).

That's life.

But don't give up to wait a bit longer.

I'm a serious guy.

It's coming up.

Stay tuned.

I think the Steves make some good points (Sanjin you've been called out - here in the states they often say "put up or .... up":smile5:) I've been very impressed with the colors, skintones, etc. I get with my meager $700 EOS500D/Rebel t1i that has 720p video. One of the biggest drawbacks of the RED1 is it is really an effort to shoot with it, and the ability with these DSLRs to take it everywhere and/or just get out and shoot (not to mention immediately use the footage) is a powerful advantage that shouldn't be sneered at.

Seems like I never just grab my R1 and go shoot, yet I can take my Canon just about everywhere. I talk to a lot of R1 owners and I think people would be amazed if they knew the actual median number of hours people have shot with their R1s. (Median is like an over/under - for example if you took the first 6001 R1 owners what would be the number of hours shot where 3000 would be above and 3000 below.) Any speculation? 10? 25? 50? 100?

This is probably the biggest reason I am looking forward to epic.
