Don't know what happened to the old thread, but here it is: the world's first Canon 50D butchered to accept PL glass and a couple of frames proving that it still works....well, kind of...it is not DSLR anymore :arf:

I would rather go for

Panasonic GH1 Hot Rod PL Deluxe HDSLR Camera Rig>>>

product_image.php

"The Canon 5Dmk2 uses a 135 sized sensor which is a 35mm STILL-photo format,

the closest equivalent on the motion picture side is VistaVision. This is not the format used predominantly

for mainstream motion picture and television production.

The Panasonic Lumix DMC-GH1 sensor, while smaller than the Canon 5Dmk2, is much closer to the field of

view/depth of field used in mainstream film and television. Take a look at this chart I created.

All sensors/film formats sizes listed are to scale.

One more thing- the 4/3″ format is not roughly equivalent to 16mm. One could say that 2/3″ HD and 16mm film are similar,

but it’s not accurate to also include 4/3. 4/3 is FOUR TIMES the size of 2/3″ HD. (22mm hypotenuse vs 11mm hypotenuse).

See the chart below for a visual representation."

Greenish tones?

Greenish tones?

Hello,

I noticed that both posted photos have an unnatural tonality, tending to go greenish, kind of. Is this because of the sensor, or the lenses used?

BTW, great accomplishment, but how will this compite with Scarlet in terms of benefits? Would the conversion's expenses be better used toward the aquisition of a new Scarlet? :rolleyes5:

Regards,

The camera that Pawel modified is Canon 50D (not 5D or 5Dm2), which has a sensor that is quite similar in size with S35-film, more similar than the sensor of GH1. I think the reason for this modification is to take stills using pl-glass, after all 50D can't shoot video.

Hehe, I'm very aware of it, but Pawel and I discussed the possibility to modify a 5D II for me, but then went with the GH1/Hot Rod combination instead.

ciao

No, the reason is to make time lapse.

The GH1 does not cut it for me. Canon still leads the pack for the best DSLR on the market.

Yes, as Ketch said, converting 5D2 is essentially the same operation :smash:

The reason for the weird tones is Photoshop I was fooling around with, not the camera or the lens. :001_smile:

Pawel, I so did NOT need another reason to lay awake dreaming of when I have enough pennies saved for a 14mm MP. So close, and yet, so far....

Great photos!

Haha, nice. :cheers2:

What did you use inside that thing, a chisel? :gun:

You should post this at timescapes, Pawel.

hahaha: a Dremel
Of course you need to dust seal the shutter and sensor prior to grinding :w00t: Not for faint hearted.

You should post this at timescapes, Pawel.
Thanks, Tom. Will do, I need to put together the time lapse sequences first. After all, this is a DSMC camera :arf:

We'll move this thread to Off Topic...

Pawel, I think the link is not working?

Will the 14mm MP cover the sensor on the 1D4? What would the FOV be?
